The old place right around the the corner is up for sale.  Real potential for a serious doomsteader or group who want to go in together...

60 acres, mostly cleared, in hardiness zone 8.  Used as horse & cattle pasture to-date. Surrounded by good farmland that can produce without forced irrigation.  Healthy deer, turkey, rabbit, and squirrel population for extra meat.

2444'sq, 4 bedroom, 2 bath main house.  Not a McMansion, but an old-style farmhouse designed for multi-generation occupancy (Built 1902).  Has central heating/air, but also has two fireplaces and a screened-in porch (essential for Dixie Summer pre-AC.)

Pond and in-ground pool.  Big stables and several other out-buildings.  Well and septic tank.

Easily less than two hours bike or horse & buggy travel from the nearest town (pop around 1,250), which has been there since long before the War of Northern Aggression.  About three hours to the County Seat (pop 15,000 and shrinking).  A long day's journey to the nearest Fedghetto in progress.  Too far for typical zombies to walk.

They're asking $590k.  They ain't gonna get it unless hyperinflation turns that amount into pocket change.  I'd start at about half if I were making an offer.

Biggest drawback is crazy people in the neighborhood...  Like this guy...

How would an atheist feminist from Boston fare there? what state are you in? I can't be really serious about buying this--for one thing it's too big for a single person--but I am thinking more and more that I need to change my life, and move.

PS--a picture of me might be as scary to your neighbors as the one of you is to us Northern Aggressors. Grin

Probably better than an old Charlestonian who openly hates NASCAR like me.

Over the years, there have been a lot of posts on this Forum from folks suggesting that a group of members should pool resources and start a doomstead community.  When I found out this place was on the market it struck me as an opportunity for such a group.  And it'd be cool to have more doomers in the neighborhood.

If anyone's really interested, I'll PM the Realtor listing.  Wife gets ill with me if I get too specific about our location on the open forum.

Sure does look Nice!

I'd be interested in piece of that, maybe. Say about $50- $75k.

Some kind of agreement where any owning partner would agree to sell at reasonable cost their interest back to the other partners if they ever wanted out.

Another place for sale is my Grandparents old house in Lansing MI. It's on 1 acre, with apple trees, apear tree, grapevines, and a good sized garden area that my grandparents really took good care of. It went to a new owner a few years ago, but is up for sale again. The basement is full of shelves for canning and storing. 2 car garage and shed out back. 3 BR, 1 bath. Not sure what they're asking...

It's at 1837 Cavanaugh Rd, in Lansing Mi if you care to check it out. I'd move in there if I wanted to live in my old hometown, but I really don't.
