I guess this is happening everywhere and I should not be surprised, I just thought it would be a while till it hit my neck of the woods.

And here we go....................

A neighbor forgot to pay her bill and it was turned off.  I went over and turned it back on.  There were no locks or anything.  She then paid the bill.  I don't know what happened then, when they found it back on, but I did learn I could have been in major doodoo.  I was just helping her finish her laundry.  But your story highlights the problems with a one size fits all response by the ptb.

What bothers me the most about this whole thing is that THEY can kick you out of your house if you don't have water service, thats BULL, they dont even want to give people a chance to be able to make it. Kick ya when you're down!!!!

I thought it was a free country, if I want to live without water I should be able to, who makes these rules anyway?HuhHuh??

I thought Oregon was supposed to be progressive?  Yet they're going to let this woman go without water because of a $120 water bill, and probably end up in the ER costing everyone tens of thousands?   More shortsightedness regarding prevention.   Angry

I'm trying to learn as I go about what we are and aren't allowed to talk about and all, but why does someone who can't pay their water bill have anything to do with peak oil breaking news?

It doesn't.  This should be moved.

If this woman had more help with her healthcare, like not having had to use up her savings to get better, perhaps she wouldn't be worried about not being able to pay a stupid water bill.

So if I lived in Bend OR and decided to put a hand pump on my well and live like my grandparents did with a pitcher pump next to the kitchen sink, the city could throw me out of my home for not having running water? That's BS. I have the right to pump my water any way I like, as long as it's my well and my pump. It like if I wanted to I could truck in my water in barrels if I wanted to. What gives the city the right to tell me how I must obtain my water? Bah! I'm glad I live out in the country away from ridiculous city governments.

They will claim that you cannot maintain sanitary conditions with an uncertified pump. Because you could cost the county $$ in health care, or infect others and start an outbreak of some sort, they will claim jurisdiction and kick you out of your home.

Not saying I agree. But that's what THEY'D say.

Personally I think if they want to claim any of that then they need to pony up the bill to keep it from happening.

I remember reading awhile back about a couple that had completely eliminated, through recycling, composting, and just wise choices about what they bought in the first place, almost all of their garbage. I think they had like one half-full sack a month or something like that. So you'd think they'd save money on their garbage pick-up, but no, the city said that they had to pay for service every week even when there was nothing to pick up because it was against the law to go without garbage service.

What if I told you that, somewhere on this island, there is a very large box and whatever you imagined, whatever you wanted to be in it when you opened that box, there it would be? What would you say about that, John?
