When you list it all like that, it sure seems....um....fatal, doesn't it?  Sad  Like a person with twenty different "conditions", none of which are particularly fatal, but are altogether ultimately insurmountable.  After it finally happens, I would not be surprised to hear arguing for the next two centuries over which element was the culprit.  They are all elements of economic suicide.  Pick one.

Or we could make it like a gun shot and just do these:

Asteroid

Nuclear War

Yah, those would be cool too - a sort of WTF just hit me kind of thing, but honestly, I still have these egocentric visions of  having survived all this and having something left to work with.

Hopefully not just ashes and rubble.

Wouldn't everything just cancel each other out?

Ultimately, that could well be the outcome, but I think in a very literal sense.  The gears can't stay stuck forever.  With the grinding and slipping going on, the gears will start stripping and have less and less power until the entire transmission locks up solid.  Hopelessly stalled.  Literally out of gas.  Out of money and out of trust.  No effect, broken, useless.  The machine dies and casualties will be heavy, but ultimately deemed tasty with a bit of special sauce.  Grin
