been trying all day and no luck. The system is overwhelmed and down. Finally got through on the phone and did a telephone claim.

In the article I just read, the ODJFS(Jobs and family services) normally gets about 7k calls a day, Friday they got over 80K.. Evidently there is a tidal wave of layoffs coming at the end of the year.

This is fucked up.

Michigan is often the same way. Takes hours to get through. If you need a person, good luck.

Robert, that article is from back in January, and is about the layoffs from the end of 2008.   I wonder if a similar scenario is happening again this year, tho.

Too bad you can't file online like we do in Illinois.
Much easier.

Definitely not. The White House is sending out its foot soldiers to assure everyone that job growth WILL recommence in the spring:

We're in a recovery. What more do you want, a look a the pre-prepared press release showing the spring numbers?

What if I told you that, somewhere on this island, there is a very large box and whatever you imagined, whatever you wanted to be in it when you opened that box, there it would be? What would you say about that, John?

You can file online, I tried all yesterday also and couldn't get through until this morning. The system is overwhelmed.

From the article:

Quote
Evans said the agency is working to add 50 temporary workers at call centers throughout the state to help out the normal 150 who normally take claims.

See - jobs are being created! The stimulus is working!

Every day I stay employed is another day I might get unemployment on the back end after my job is gone and nothing is there to take it's place in the current system.  Then I see shit like this and realize I might lose my job at the same time that the unemployment system goes bye bye.

I better make sure I am ready to plant my gardens in the spring time, cause otherwise I might starve next year the way things have been going.

Unemployment situation in Ohio is getting worse day by day. You can't blame the State either. It is one of the most populous states and obviously unemployment figures are way more than the average in the country. But what puzzles me is that the state must have had more resources and tax revenue generated in the form of unemployment taxes paid by employers. Perhaps they could add some temp workers to improve the processing times and call handling? This will create few jobs as well
If you see the unemployment trend it is steadily raising. Check the graph at Ohio unemployment benefits site (scroll down for the graph) you will notice the rate is steadily going up. Is it going to slow down anytime soon?!
