I think it is not only possible, but highly probable.

Cant wait for it to hit $200 PB, the stake through the heart of humanity, I hope they drive it in hard, it will be the wake up call to save our next generation. The sooner the better.

My view as well. The sooner we have big shock, the sooner things start to change.

It's just going to speed up Armageddon. This civilization has gone too far to be saved. It's going to collapse in spectacular fashion. The faster and higher oil prices rise, the quicker will come suffering and death. The only change that will come from high oil prices is the change from 1st world to 3rd world living standards. The world that emerges will be one of unending brutal wars, oppression of women and gays, rampant disease and death, and famine. Pretty much how the entire human history was up until oil  became our most important commodity.

Early this morning in the battle between the housing collapse and peak oil, the housing collapse is winning. Some bad numbers from Wachovia are sending the market and oil prices down.

You may be right Junkscape, recently watched a news show regarding Louisiana. I could not beleive my eyes when I saw people still without a place to live!!!! WTF? That kinda sent a shiver or two up and down, you know what I'm sayin?

These government fucks are all playing the blame game at the exspense of these peoples lives. If the gov are so disfunctional 2 years after an already fucked up attempt to inject law and order what chance is there WTSHTF?

I also noticed that these displaced humans were all Negro's, and they say theres no racial discrimination. I wonder. All I can say is, get out of the US while you still can.

Back on subject...

The next few days and weeks should be interesting.  If $pb oil price drops back any significant amount we'll know the cause is profit taking after the price was driven up due to speculation.  If the price doesn't soften then truth is lent to there really being severe supply/demand problems.  Either way we're at the mercy of market manipulation, PO, and probably both.

I have a hard time cheering as the price of oil inches up like some in this forum.  What's the point?  The ensuing economic catastrophe and suffering proves we're right?  I'd rather that we're all at least partially wrong and that we have time to prepare and maybe even help change the course of human events. I know I need more time.

Back off subject...

As for your observations on Louisiana, I refuse to acknowledge the fact that there are "poor" people in this country, regardless of skin color, as long as many of said people are obese.  Watching the Katrina disaster made me sick to my stomach.  Besides the failure of the federal government CITY, LOCAL, and STATE governments were glaringly inept.  (i.e. a fleet of flooded school buses that could have evacuated many people.) My bitch were the "poor" people stranded in New Orleans who had designer cloths, gobs of jewelry, (women) nail jobs, etc.  Poverty is NOT a problem in this country, our priorities are.  There are too many people who pass the time bitching blaming the government for their problems then are first in line for government assistance when TSHTF.

The people I witnessed in our news story on Louisiana here in Australia did not depict obese humans, nor were they donned with designer fashions. They were sleeping under a shelter at a local park out front of the Council offices. 2 years after the fact, sad effort, they had homes but are now refused entry due to government red tap. I believe with the practical common sense we hold, you would think that a society would look after its own, not every human is born with an even mindset. But I respect were you are coming from.  Find out for yourself, the Governments of America all need giant uppercuts. http://publish.vx.roo.com/sbs/portal/?channel=Dateline

I second this opinion entirely.

Exactly!  We're at 10,000x the global poverty rate, even those with the most meager of incomes!  Luxuries have supplanted necessities and perspective is all out of balance.

So the market dumped 390 on Friday and looks ready to do the same....

Why, then, are oil prices receding like my hairline?  Or are we just profit-taking over the weekend?

Again, my short answer, TGWTG;

Quote

The spot cash price for oil is not for what's in the delvery system (that's already been bought), it's for purchases to be delivered.  I'm sure refiners are not wanting to buy expensive oil if they thing demand will drop due to a softening economy.  It's no different than any of us, we're going to hold off on making purchases we think we can save money on by waiting.

I'm not concerned with daily ups and downs, but rather, long term trends.  The long term trend is still up and will continue to be.  One day's (or week's) market movement does not a trend make.

I don't hope for high prices or an oil crash.  Quite the opposite.  I expect that will happen eventually but pray for more time to prepare.

With oil prices hovering in the high $80's this week, it's obvious that all eyes are on Turkey. As they gear up and move men and weapons toward their border with Iraq, we might actually see less movement in the price of oil as everyone freezes to see what they are going to do. Of course, as soon as they move the first boot over the border, look for oil prices to do a pretty fair impersonation of a bottle rocket.

The only question is when.
