After suffering a violent attack from the dangerous, unruly child this paragon of law enforcement virtue was able to bring the suspect down with his trusty taser.

Yep........the mother encouraged the heroic officer to use any means necessary.

God........I feel so much safer knowing there are heroes like this looking out for......"our safety"

What is the best non lethal weapon to take down middle school children with?

Portland officer shoots 12 year old with beanbag round

http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2009/11/portland_officer_suspend_after.html

There is that little issue of parent involvement and what the heck is your 12 year old doing running around without supervision at 11pm.

While it is in the interests of the group as a whole to press for favorable policies, it is not in any individual’s interest to do so.

Not that I support this cr*p, but playing advocate for the other side, sometimes children think they can do anything they want. That attitude usually leads to horrible consequences, sooner or later.

Of course, sometimes police officers think they can do anything they want, and that attitude should lead to horrible consequences for them. But often doesn't.

oh dear, the LEO in question seems to have a history of violence:

from the comments section:
"Who would have THUNK that this very same officer who wrongfully killed James Chasse would three years later be shooting at a 12 year old girl? And perhaps could have very really wrongfully killed someone else. His grasp of appropriate responsiveness to situations NEVER going to be appropriate or deserving of wearing a policeman's badge. EVER."

Face the facts. Then act on them.

It's the only mantra I know, the only doctrine I have to offer you, and it's harder than you think, because I swear humans seem hardwired to do anything but. Face the facts. Don't pray, don't wish, don't buy into centuries old dogma and dead rhetoric.

we recently had a 12 yo boy with mental heath issues shot and killed by police because he was waving a pocketknife around at a skate park.

It is sad to see that the same mentality is shared globally.

That girl has problems that need attending to, not tasing. JFC.

I remember one incident when I was about that age, 10-12. I was upset about something, and I was mad at my mother. The emotions got all mixed up. She was yelling at me, and then took a flyswatter to me (more annoying than anything else), and I remember just sobbing, but it was because I knew I was being a shit and I couldn't stop it. I wanted to, but I couldn't. I was KID for Christ's sakes. Kids are often not rational and cannot be reasoned with. Sometimes their brains just stop functioning with any sense at all. And it's something an adult has to figure out and help with. That doesn't mean my behavior was acceptable, but certainly a taser wouldn't have been the answer. The flyswatter sure didn't help. Cheesy  Eventually I went upstairs to my room, cried it out, and then I was fine.

Once my daughter got into one of those fits, when she was around 5. She wanted to thrash around, but I picked her up, sat in a chair, and just held onto her firmly. She finally calmed herself down and we just sat there awhile. She was still mad afterward, but she was able to get herself under control.

Something was wrong in that situation beyond a girl just not wanting to go to bed or listen to her mother. I hope somebody works with her and figures out what's going on.

Sounded like a typical tantrum to me. Too bad the mother still thinks cops are the good guys. Also too bad the mother doesn't recognize tantrums. I suspect the father will get custody now.

Different parenting techniques - some good, some not.

We were watching the reality show Little People, Big World.  It was the episode about them giving their youngest son a cell phone for his 12th birthday.  Well the kid went nuts and had a text bill of $2800.  Now the parents took away is phone all the while the parents apologized to the kid for giving him a phone when he apparently wasn't old enough.

If that had happened in my house, every neighbor for 5 miles would have heard my husband.  As a matter of fact, a $2800 bill would have been a good reason for one of our kids to run away from home rather than face us.!

Ummm, the incident with the 10 year old who was tazed happened in Arkansas, not Missouri.   Please do not impugn the good name of our Missouri cops by saying he was from Missouri.  Our cops would never do anything like that. Cheesy

MADNESS MADNESS MADNESS

but sadly, not unexpected -- a mother encouraging cops to control their own children. This society acts on the values that every part of our lives -- and thus power and freedom -- can be centralized and made more efficient. Thus we've been stripped of the power we have to raise and educate our children in positive, caring ways directed by the natural instincts of the child and instead our kids have been propped in front of the television, given behavior meds, and subject to public education. Since mothers through a few generations have given into this trend -- following all the nasty lies this society has told about raising a child: formula over breastmilk, ignore the child's midnight cries to make them "learn independence," handing their kids over to public schools to be taught, above all, that the best way to get by is to OBEY -- it is no wonder that a mother would enlist the cops to use violence on her child. "Mothering" as defined by this society is largely violence already. Now that violence is being explicit and centralized.

That's a great post. I focused on the crazy cop, but you're right---the mom expecting the cop to control her child is a huge issue, too.
