Well.. I'll give the same advice we often give to newbies here.. settle in for a lot of reading and not too much posting to begin with... pretty much any ramification you can think of has been done to death here.. soon you'll have a better grip on the situation and can make a meaningful contribution to discussions..

enjoy.. you've got a bumpy road ahead of you!   Cheesy

And most importantly, don’t buy into the CRAP about rich people transferring your wealth to themselves, it is ALL PURE HYSTERIA. The rich generally deserve what they have. They don’t steal from you. And they certainly don’t wish to impoverish you.

Who are "the rich"?
Your family and friends?
It's obvious you are barely out of your teens.
What did YOU do to "deserve what you have?" Since you are obviously very young, I know you personally did not make enough money to afford the baubles and treasures of which you speak. You haven't been alive long enough do so. You were lucky enough to be born to wealth. What did you do to "deserve" this?

As others have said, there is a big difference between people who own businesses and have millions, and people who serve as government appointees and have billions. The latter is the group doing the pillaging.

But you're probably correct in that anyone with a little money will be a target in the dark future days ahead. How about donating your fortune to charity? It obviously hasn't done you any good to have it. It's made you paranoid, self-centered, and perhaps worst of all, unable to imagine a future without your baubles and riches - baubles and riches which you didn't earn yourself, but inherited.

You seriously need to volunteer in a soup kitchen or otherwise immerse yourself in the reality of what it means to be poor and desperate in today's world. You also need to learn a thing or two about empathy. Your whole attitude is very disingenuous and smacks of entitlement. You're like a little kid putting his fingers in his ears, and sticking his tongue out at the neighbors. I'm much older than you and don't want or need to be preached to by a teenager who doesn't know anything about real life.

rarn80,
Your post sounds suspiciously like whining. What are you looking for, sympathy? If you don't like your situation then do something about it.

+1

And dude, you're basically realizing your money won't save you. That's where all your anxiety is coming from. The world is changing, maybe your family will still be on top, maybe not, but money certainly won't protect you against the starving masses. There has to be a baseline level of sustainability for a decent amount of the population in order for the rich to enjoy their money. Once mass hunger and discontent sets it, having money won't protect you unless you have enough to hire and feed a sizeable security force.

But my family has always had a "disaster plan" in case of a bad earthquake to go to the parents house. Of course in a collapse, they would hopefully see the need to gather the family there, and then GET THE HELL out of that area.

I am just focusing on these two sentences because there seems to be more just a kernel of truth there.

OF COURSE that is the plan! This dude rarn80 must know it, and I don't really know WHAT to say about the minions of latoc that have posted in these 12 pages.

How could ANYONE including rarn80 even begin to believe that the plan is to post rarn80 on the family castle's ramparts and let him take potshots at the approaching mzbs!

Even though there is a ring of truth and integrity about all the advice to appear poor and align with all the other humble elements in the community, anybody have a guess about how many rich and/or elites are going to do that? I thinking somewhere in the area of zero.

And I'm sure the advice about setting up an inconspicuous  rural doomstead is well meant also. Again, how many rich/elites are going to do that?

I would have to say that any rich/elite that comes anywhere near deserving that title WOULD GET THE HELL OUT OF DODGE WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN. Aslinged back on page two or three came close with his little sarcastic Paraguay fantasy, but it by no means has to be anything close to that scale.

For gawd's sake, probably even a freakin' middle class person with a couple of hundred K could figure out where to go, away from the mayhem!

rarn80, what do you mean about "my Grandfather was asked to run in the '72 election in lieu of Stanfield and declined the offer (some say due to his personal friendship with Pierre Trudeau)" - this is absolute bullshit which means your entire post is bullshit. No one is "asked" to just waltz in and take over the leadership of a party just to run in an particular election.

For heaven's sake, don't you know anything about Canadian politics?Huh Bob Stanfield was the leader of the PC's and had been since 1967. There was absolutely no thought whatsoever of the party having a leadership convention to replace him at the time - not even whispers. Stanfield led the party to a fantastic result in '72, much better than anticipated. In fact, he stayed on to lose one more election, in '74. Poor bastard, ran into Trudeaumania 3x in a row. Stanfield was most likely the best Prime Minister we never had.

There are only so many very wealthy families in Atlantic Canada - curious to know which one you claim to be from.

P.S. If anyone was a friend of Trudeau his chances of becoming leader of the PC"s was zero.  Wink

So let me get this straight.

You are worried that because you live in a big stone mansion you will be killed in a revolution?

I have a quick answer for you. Take some of your money and build a 1200 ft house with about a 4,000 square foot mansion as a basement hidden hidden by a secret door.

And finally. Quit whining. There are people on this board that have no assets to prep at all. This puts them at a VERY BIG disadvantage.

Dont act like an elite and you wont be treated like an elite by the rest of the public.

You will be a target and so will your family but keep in mind that eventually everyone will be a target.  It doesn't matter if you're in the city, in a mansion, in the suburbs, or in the forest, at some point in time everyone will be a target.  Best get you head in the game or you'll be part of the soylent shaped recovery.

Rarn80, I advise you to do very much reading, for three reasons.

1. Reading will help you prepare yourself. You will find ways to live on less money, eat more healthfully, defend yourself more effectively, and live more happily overall. Ask folks around for some good reading. I recommend Neil Strauss's Emergency, the classic Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook, C.S. Lewis's The Problem of Pain, the Dalai Lama's Art of Happiness, Victor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning. I also highly recommend Henry B. Eyring's To Draw Closer to God, though that is written with an LDS audience in mind.

2. Reading will show you how bad the world has gotten. The nasty fact of the matter is that people are much meaner than you realize. Check out this site, Forgotten History, to see some of the mean things the CIA has done to prop up our economy and our military. War Nerd will give you a very irreverent but unpleasantly fatcual run through the shady side of world history and its associated battles. Nickel and Dimed will teach you how harsh life is for the poor, even in the US. What is the What will teach you that nothing is worse than living in Africa. Three Cups of Tea will give you bad news but will also show you a way to improve the world even in the worst situations.

3. Reading will help you convince other people, including your family and friends. You will learn more facts, develop more persuasive arguments, and find more sources (including some very respectable ones) to back you up. For this, I can think of no one better than Matt Savinar himself; it was his site that really changed my way of thinking on this issue.

Check out the LATOC Book Store for a host of other good reads. There's a world of knowledge and power out there, waiting for you to tap into it. You have nothing to lose but your preconceptions.

Shocked- guess brain washing goes both ways. The Elite. The Elite do not give a sh*t about the little people, unless they have something to gain from it. This an observation not a judgement.
Since, Ram80, you have the resources, use them wisely. Good Luck and God Bless.

Rarn80,

I've arrived late to this party.

Assuming you are exactly what you say you are: a child of privilege (and not just a troll), I would humbly implore of you (as one of the lesser beings that was not born with money and thus is somehow less a worthy person than yourself) the following:

Please have one of your family servants print out the following statement culled from your original post on the largest paper they can find...poster-sized if possible: "The rich generally deserve what they have".

Now have Jeeves (or whatever his/her name is) roll it into a tight funnel shape and hand it to you...

so you can stick it up your ass as far it will go.

Have a nice day.

I second that.  Another trust fund twit that's never had to make it in the real world, never had to work an honest day in his life.  Sounds like a younger version of shrub.  They never amount to being anything more then monumental fuckups and blood sucking parasites.  He won't get any sympathy from me.
