I have this funny feeling, its like looking at a freshly baked pristine apple pie.  I want to tear into it, but I don't know if I'm hungry enough to eat the entire thing, yet if I have just one slice, I know I'll want a second, next thing I know I will have over eaten and will feel guilty.

+1 on that one....

Jeromie fiasco? I missed that. What happened?

That bloody arrogant nitwit Seahorse said that Jeromie was posting links to MSM articles that denied PO and that this violated forum rules. Of course he was not. On top of that, there were know-it-all newbs like Picasso Moon lambasting Jeromie for every word he uttered. Jeromie finally got fed up with being unable to have a conversation and deleted his account.

Welcome to the forum, Dennis from Ontario!

BTW, you can use this as your avatar!

Haha, no, I don't think it's Dennis.  Dennis was much more interesting, I miss seeing his posts around :-)
Near as I can tell, Dennis has holed up somewhere in Southern Oregon...best of luck to him.

I think Dennis has his own forum now. I came accross it once, saw several people from here including the requisite deleted fishsurfer account. Been seriously considering switching over since that Jeromie fiacso.

Where, where? Please tell. I'd love to find an alternative to this dump since Jeromie is gone. PLEASE let me know if you find it.

Ok so I just got through this entire trainwreck. Jesus.  Shocked

Rarn-

I suspect we are about the same age. I realize how much it sucks to realize that the shit may very well hit the fan while we are still young. It fucking blows. Do you not think that every single one of us is nervous about their situation for one reason or another?

Take for example myself- I have to travel by commuter train everyday into the heart of a city that would be in the top 3 target cities for a terrorist or whatever type of strike. This city is also very dangerous for single white females dressed in business clothes, and it's only getting worse by the day. That leaves me very vulnerable for about 12 hours a day. So yea, I understand being nervous about being in a vulnerable position. However, I know that the moment that it becomes too dangerous for me to go into that city (and I may not get warning, and be fucked) I will walk away.

Take control of your circumstances and make a plan A and B. Define your most likely threats and figure out a plan. You sound reasonably smart aside from your obvious lack of internet forum social skills.

We've all been through this. You are in what we call the anger stage. Start preparing, stick around here, and you can move past this stage.

Good luck to you,
Alecia

This is slightly OT, but forum members are prob. not aware that the middle class in industrialized countries is the elite in most parts of the world. For example, from where I'm writing (the Philippines) most have no access to the Internet, and the poverty rate is between 60 and 88 percent.

Here's one site that illustrates this disparity:

http://www.globalrichlist.com/

There are more in the "ecological footprint" thread found in this forum.

To quickly sum up the credentials of our family organization, let me say that we employ over 1,000 people, my Grandfather was asked to run in the '72 national election in lieu of Stanfield and declined the offer (some say due to his personal friendship with Pierre Trudeau), our group of companies has been growing at a pace of 6-10% annually, almost every year, for 62 years. Our asset base and revenues dwarf some of the companies on the FP 500, yet very few people know our name, and we like it that way. You might say we have been a part of the Canadian "Elite" since the 1940's.

I am afraid.

I am afraid that the BS "conspiracy theorists" have so many people believing their garbage, that my family will be hunted down and killed, or worse, simply for being successful. The economic collapse has darkened the mood of the entire western world. What will happen when stage 2 comes into effect? I don’t know, but I speculate on it for hours every day.

(Note to Canadians: Go on the CBC news website, and leave a comment at the bottom of any financial article. Leave a post along the lines of “The rich are stealing from the poor, and leaving us impoverished” or something similar and then sit back and watch the “Thumbs Up” counter explode... People are even more pissed than Kunstler thinks.)

I'd like to compare my situation here to that of "Preppers", because I could not find a better forum to post this. Do you fear being raided in a collapse? I bet you do. Imagine putting a giant billboard on your home that reads: “Supplies Inside”, in the event of a collapse.

That’s what we have. A giant rock mansion with an ocean view IS a bulls eye for MZB’s and Revolutionaries alike. Now imagine you are in your mid-20’s and cannot convince the parents (monetary decision-makers) to do a damned thing. My family doesn’t like to think about hoards of people kicking down the door and murdering us with smiles on their faces. Nor do I really, but it never leaves my mind.

If you think that YOU, the average doomer/prepper, is in trouble, then I say FUCK YOU... you have no idea what kind of danger lurks in the future for people like me. All of this for no reason other than general rage from have-nots towards the haves. That rage will intensify and duplicate every time the economy plunges further. It will feed the egos of the many so-called “prophets” like Gerald Celente, who call for an economic collapse for thirty straight years, and then claim they saw THIS ONE coming. It’s total idiocy in my mind. Half of doomers think this economic collapse was “pre-planned” by the rich to transfer the rest of the wealth from the middle class to the Elite.  If you believe that, you are likely to be one of the revolutionaries that I’m picking off from behind my 6-inch rock walls (and I can hit a pop can at 150 meters with open sights). There is no NWO, Illuminati, Bilderberg Group, or any other group secretly running the world, or at least not Canada. There are only rich families looking out for their children’s interest, just like you would be.
Looking destitute will be the most important survival tactic in the world for a prepper, so learn to act penniless. Learn to beg for food, even when you have a 24 month supply stashed at home. Believe me, your neighbours will notice whether or not you’ve been out looking for food. And most importantly, don’t buy into the CRAP about rich people transferring your wealth to themselves, it is ALL PURE HYSTERIA. The rich generally deserve what they have. They don’t steal from you. And they certainly don’t wish to impoverish you.

The leaders of a revolution always become the new Elite under the new government. They simply used you to fight, then took wealth and power from those they were jealous of. It’s been done 1,000 times in the past, and will be done 1,000 times in the future.

What bothers me most about conspiracy theorists is their self-deluded thinking. They blab about their esoteric knowledge and their esoteric ability to spot patterns. They rail against the “Sheeple” for believing everything they read, but then guess what? Then they log onto Infowars, or PrisonPlanet, or Globalresearch.ca and believe any pile of shit thrown at them. Maybe they should have their noses checked, as well as their heads?

(On a much friendlier note, I really like this forum, and will have many more essays and articles to come. I believe I can contribute a fresh perspective!)

Do you create money out of thin air, force everyone to use that money and pay interest on that money in both usuary and income taxes? Are you allowed to run massive Ponzi Schemes just because you and your family are at the top of the heap? If not you are not part of the real elite.

Also most people as rich as you claim to be got there from abusing government power to destroy competition, externalize every cost, and get taxpayer money (corporate welfare).

Also if you are afraid of backlash just dont be an asshole

The debate of whether or not I / My family are "Elites" is moot. The article was meant to counter the tin-foil hat crowd who say "Elites" are purposely destroying the economy to basically enslave the middle and lower classes. I guess I should have called the article "Conspiracy Theorists will unfairly target all rich people"

If you believe the elites aren't purposefully destroying the economy, this just means one thing, you're not as elite as you think you are.

1) if you dead, you're dead, that all
2) if you think you are a target, do something about it.
3) stop worrying about wether the other posters think you are elite or not. It really doesn't matter.

As for conspiracies, recent history is full examples of average people being hosed by big business, and if you don't believe the money men get together and figure out ways of squeezing every last drop out you are incredibly naive.

Thank guys,

Yes, reading the regular LATOC site brought me here (those two long pages are what shell-shocked me). I'd been quizing my parents about oil since I was 10 years old when I read we would run out of oil by 2050. to which most people just say "Oh, they keep finding more" But I've been trying to, how do you say, go through a steep learning curve? Well... at least on the ramifications of PO. I haven't learned shit about sustainable living yet. I went and saw Collapse last Saturday, and wow. My buddy who I had always deemed a "tin foiler" brought me, as he saw me as someone who could do some real preps... well, that is, if we have maybe a decade or more left. As of now, I dont have any control over money/resources and am living a normal life like most people (living in a house built in the 70's, drive a $10,000 car, no Dom and Alize, etc.)
