rarn80,
We LATOCers are angry, but not for the reasons you think.

If you think that YOU, the average doomer/prepper, is in trouble, then I say FUCK YOU...

And in one fellswoop this guy insults the entire forum with his very first post.

What else would you expect from a typical rich pretentious douchebag asshole?  "Wah wah wah!!!  I'm rich and my problems matter more than yours!!!"  Cry more n00b.

rarn80,
I make it a standard practice not to actually hate anyone who is simply acting in their own best interest.  Doesn't mean I won't shoot anyone to save my own skin or that of my family, but I won't hate them for working in their own interests simply because they conflict with mine.  Hatreds, for me, have to be doled out far more sparingly than that.  That said, I think you've far more to be worried about from hungry hordes/MZB's than actual ideological revolutionary types who hate you because you're one of the elite (caveat here, this assumes that your government doesn't provoke a civil war against its population, in which case you'll likely be identified with the pro-government side because of your elite status by default and attacked accordingly by said anti-government forces...but you live in Canada, not the US, so frankly I don't see too much chance of that happening unless such a war breaks out in the US and you're too close to the border and the US revolutionaries forget what side of the border they're on).
Here's what I suggest you do, you've got the resources to do it pretty easily.
Estimate how many people you'd likely need to defend your home against any small hordes likely to form in a collapse situation.  My suspicion is that this number for you is around 30.
Make preparations sufficient to keep that 30 in supply for at least a year, probably longer and to enclose enough carrying capacity to feed that 30 long term (you probably already have said land, you just need to consider how to keep it).
Identify 30 people (in practice, it's probably more like 10-15, as you get spouses and kids in the bargain usually) who are reasonably trustworthy and, most importantly, likely to be 'loyal to their salt'.  If your family has any servants, which I suspect it probably does, this is a good place to start.  Be ready to activate them with an offer along the lines of, I'll include you in this doomstead along with your wife & kids if you'll swear some allegiance/fealty/loyalty/take your pick of terms of alliance when TSHTF.  Were I your neighbor/servant/colleague/drinking buddy/etc and you weren't a total rat bastard, I'd take the deal and fulfill my end of it.  Shepherd your little lifeboat through the storm and congratulations, you've become a Baron, in the old school.  Feudalism is in the past, but it's probably also in the future.  Just try to avoid getting minons that are too ambitious.

And wtf is it with everyone telling this guy he had a good post?!  His post consisted of 3 things -

1. Telling us how awesome he is.
2. Telling us what idiots we are.
3. Telling us that his problems are more important than ours.

Yeah, great post!  5 star thread, would read again.

Looking destitute will be the most important survival tactic in the world for a prepper, so learn to act penniless.

Got that "act" down pat, trust me. As for your fresh perspective? probably not going to be.

Sorry that I  won't have a fresh perspective

You know, normally I would have been more forgiving when I see it is a Newbie's first post but this comment:

If you think that YOU, the average doomer/prepper, is in trouble, then I say FUCK YOU...

Nah, there ain't nothin' fresh about your perspective. . .let them eat cake comes to mind.

Either this guy is a troll just getting his kicks trying to get a rise out of us, or he really is a complete douche bag.

Pretty lame regardless.

And one other thing comes to mind, the title of this post. "We Elite Are Afraid - But Not For Reasons You Think" How does being a twenty something from a wealthy family make you in any way ELITE? I have had the good fortune to know and work with some truly selfless and elite people in my time and financial means/ family connections had nothing to do with why they were elite.

I call bullshit.  Wink

But, incidentally, I forgot to tell you guys that my grandfather is actually Bob Hope and that all that charity golf shit he was doing in later life was in fact a ponzi scheme designed by Warren Buffett's little brother with the expressed intention of fattening our collective doomstead kitty. Which, I might add between sips of my maid-made double skim soy chai latte, is also called Paraguay. Well, the western portion of Paraguay anyway. Guess it slipped my mind up to this point---sorry-- but with all the hiring and firing of mercs, evaluating helicopter pads, thinking up tax havens, stocking up on face lotion and generally preparing the great feast whereupon I will simply eat the rest of the world...well it slipped my mind. Oh and in case you're wondering, yes Ken Lay is alive and is a neighbor!

And no I will not loan you fifty grand, well maybe rocketgirl, she has potential.

Well I knew the attacks would be pouring in, So I would like to respond to a few comments.

Grower, New Dark Age, and Most of the Rest:

I never said that I am better than anybody. I never said I have more to lose. What I am saying is that I AM THE TARGET. Yes my line saying "... blah blah blah, FUCK YOU"  was very inflammatory, but I never said half of the things people are criticizing me for.

Ex Ranger:

I too was wondering if my post sounded like whining. Not sure how to respond, you basically have me there. I guess my best response (in a 3 minute window here) is that I'm trying to explain the following: I believe that there is going to be a revolution, which will be lead by the Tin Foil Hat Crowd, and I will unjustly murdered. So yes, I guess it's whining. I'll try to avoid that in the future.

Sabre:

Oh yes, dont get me wrong, I know if the oard comes for me I'm dead, and so is anyone in my home.

I'll do more responses later tonight, until then keep the posts coming, my point here is to generate a debate.

Plz keep it civilized.

Doesn't that make this a thunderdome worthy thread? Its certainly shaping up that way.
