Well... Wisconsin, but it IS almost winter.  I am a newb doomer, but hubby has been spouting off for years.

Our first step was losing the TV a few years ago, and one day we hope to fully unplug from the hive-- but working in the biosciences generally means working in the city.

Oh, and family had H1N1 nasal vaccine two weeks ago (we have a newborn to protect) and we all feel fine-- no bubonic plague or anything...

Welcome to the forum!

Good decision about going TV-less.  Doesn't it feel great?  I've been TV-less for 14 years and couldn't imagine going back.

Yes!  But I don't know a single person, other than my SO, who doesn't watch it.  It's sad that most people watch it upwards of 4, 8, even 12 hours a day and don't see anything wrong with it.  What a terrible way to live.  Husband thinks it's actually the aspiration of most people to have more time to watch TV, and that is the American Dream

Unfortunately I have to agree with that.  The fact that Americans are so brainwashed by their televisions is the main reason I don't think there will ever be a revolution in this country.  Rioting when the grocery store shelves are empty, yes, but revolution against a blatantly corrupt government, no.

The unfortunate thing is that they will riot when they realise what has happened but they weren't paying any attention when they could have effected any change.

Hey... you guys, I still watch TV
I watch it while I crochet - it is kind of background for me
But I am VERY busy the rest of the time
And i read ALOT
I garden
walk
visit my 96 year old Grandmother every day - and do errands for her
work part-time
Am on the internet too much
do workshops and training
AND I watch TV while I crochet in the evenings

Wordy, I think it's quite obvious that you are not part of the brainwashed masses.  Wink

I didn't mean to excoriate everyone who watches TV.  Hell, everyone I know watches TV.  I just think that it is a main contributor to apathy and ignorance in the US.

TV doesn't have to be evil, but TPTB make it so.  Also most people I know watch TV, and consequently talk about TV.  I hate sitting down to lunch and haviing to listen to people talk about lame crime drama, or tell me what they now think they know about string theory ("educational"...my ass).

Thus I can only conclude TV makes people boring.
Or maybe people are already boring and so watch TV.

Either way... it's difficult to gauge reality when one spends so much time avoiding it.  Although, since non-TV people are a clear minority, maybe TV is realty.

Besides, why watch TV in a world that cancels Firefly after one season?  phhh

I can understand TV while you knit though.  That's cool.  One can only listen to so much community radio LOL.
