Kind of skeptical how this will translate to screen.  The book was half poetry, half nightmare and I've no idea how that could ever be conveyed on film.

Agreed, maybe an indie film could give it the feel, but not the visuals.  But, it's hollywood - so maybe the visuals with no feel  Grin

However, I'm pleased with the choice of Viggo Mortensen - can't think of a better actor who might be able to pull off the role of the father.

Without giving away any spoilers,

I suggest finishing eating your popcorn during the previews.

The movie kept me on edge, scared-like, pretty much throughout.

I hadn't read the book, so from that standpoint, I don't see how they could have done a better job.

The movie is often quiet. I had a bag of fruit snacks that came with my kids meal and I had to wait awhile to find "loud enough" time to open the plastic bag.

I sometimes had trouble making out what was being said by the characters when they were speaking softly.

I saw it in Austin, the 7:20 showing. It was a surprisingly big theater. Maybe 225 people in the audience.

After the movie a friend texted me, asked me if I liked it. I told him it wasn't really a movie one likes, though it was well done. I did appreciate it, and find it valuable.

I did appreciate the ending. I thought it was a good ending.
I even waited for the credits wondering if that was Brad Pitt at the end.
