A couple in Elgin, Texas, made a movie about their desperate attempt to help their 5-year-old autistic son.
They discovered he had an odd affinity for horses (but his illness persisted).
They knew the oldest intact horse-based culture was in Mongolia.
They went there, seeking shamanic treatments.
Dad was pretty gung-ho.  Mom is a prof at UTexas, and skeptical.  But desperate.
Finally found the guy they were looking for, a member of a nomadic
reindeer-following band living the same life they did thousands of years ago,
more or less.
He treats the boy, who immediately begins to improve, it seems.
Catch the movie:  "The Horse Boy"

They have a related foundation to help treating autistic kids.
