NYLongBow

ok how come it says you only have 32 posts? you have been here a long time for sure but i am sure you posted more than that!

Love your photographs! You really do a fantastic job! Much impressed! But i do believe i MAY have seen them before!

 Wink

yes you have. I have never left LATOC. I have to admit though... pretty much a leech. I keep coming and reading ALOT... keeping matt's banners exposing. :-)

Have pointed a few of my 'enlightened' friends here as well.

I am the quiet doomer that remains, deliberately, unseen :-)

Ah, it was the eraser step I was not doing. Thanks! I personally do not consider that a hi-jack! you have some damn fine doomer mood photography, and there are many inquiring minds here.  Grin

I over did it, and it was fun, still not a good as yours, but I believe that I will be disappearing into my camera and photoshop now. Bye LATOC!  Grin

Hey, I got it! Cool beans, maybe I'm not such an old fart after all!
As to the Riders, I think it was this piece in particular. . .

Well, save that expression, I'd have never guessed. Wink

I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that the middle age here is way above the standard of those forums I've been active on in the past - it's a great opportunity to learn from you people who actually have first-hand experience with many of those skills that will in time be crucial. Not to mention the purely intellectual exchange; you people are like finely aged wine in that respect, whereas I merely compare to the crude last fall's cider. Grin

I love that sepia toned one......what a cool shot......

Thanks for posting everyone.... its definitely a path less trodden.....but much more fun!

Amazing pictures NYLongBow! I'm going to add you as a friend on flickr because I must learn some of your techniques Grin. All of you have quite the talent and I must say I'm jealous that I don't have the gift you carry  Undecided. I guess practice makes perfect eh.

Hi Hydrolow! I don't think it is so much gift as it is grit. Obviously someone with a genius IQ, not me, will do better at the arts, whether writing, music, or visual arts. I watched students with average or weak beginnings go on to produce tremendous art. It was the drive, the intensity, the passion that propelled them into successful careers. I have also observed truly gifted students never do anything with their art.

So YES, practice makes perfect, so get busy!  Grin

Alright, here's my one artistic skill.  I paint lead figures.  I photographed a lot more but my camera isn't good enough to capture things that small without being very blurry.  These are actually two of the larger figures (most are either 25mm or 28mm scale).

skepticus, what amazing attention to detail!!
I love miniature work and used to paint miniatures before my eyes got too old.
(I'm not old, just my eyes!) lol
anyway, I love your figures. Do you use them in scenes? Or sell them?

Thanks all for the compliments!  In answer to the questions....

Do you use them in scenes? Or sell them?

I did paint figures for money a few times in high school and college, but didn't pursue it.  There are people who paint figures professionally, but in order to be competitive I would have to paint a hell of a lot faster than I do (or else what they charge wouldn't be worth my time), and I like to spend hours and hours getting it just right.  As for scenes, I have done a few.  The last one I did for was for my girlfriend actually.  I bought three faeries and gave one a purple scheme, one blue, and one dark red.  Then I found a wooden base and covered it with terrain to make it look like a grassy field.  Then I bought a bunch of those little flower bouquets from Michael's in the same colors as the faeries and took them apart (separating the flowers out).  Then I took the flowers in alternating colors and twisted them around into letters to spell out her name and glued them down to the base so it looked like they were growing out of the ground.  Then the faeries were set in front of the letters.  She liked it.  Smiley  (And unfortunately the pics I took of it when I was done were lost when my last hard drive died.)

Those are cool! Which table top games do you play?

I don't play any figures games anymore (don't have the money or know people in the area who do) but I played Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40K back in high school and college.

I pretty much just paint for relaxation anymore.  I just got my paints back out a few weeks ago.  I hadn't done any painting since last spring (too busy gardening in the summer!).  I have several shelves full of figures in my spare bedroom.  Some day when I get a better camera that can actually focus in on the little suckers I'll post some more pics.

Upon rummaging about I discovered that I really DO need to take some photos of my earrings etc.,  this is the best I could come up with:
On the right, some of my beadwork
http://www.facebook.com/deborah.yost?ref=name#/photo.php?pid=1964215&id=652225208

top shelf, mostly my work
http://www.facebook.com/deborah.yost?ref=name#/photo.php?pid=1964269&id=652225208

I am a hobbyist, BTW, not a jeweler.  To be nit-picky but accurate, an actual jeweler has a degree from here
http://www.revereacademy.com/
(as does my daughter)  or certification from here  http://www.jewelers.org/profdevelopment/certification.html (as does my hubby) or similar accredited schools.
Just so ya know.

This year I celebrate 30 years of recording music and being an "activist" by giving up on both!  All of my available albums are now free downloads on the John Ludi website (as I'm damned if I'll spend the time and money to make any more of them):
