http://money.cnn.com/2009/11/03/news/companies/buffett_burlington_northern/index.htm?postversion=2009110308

This is a must read!! Whay does Mr Buffet call his firm's investment an "all-in wager on the economic future of the United States."

Again.."Our country's future prosperity depends on its having an efficient and well-maintained rail system," Buffett said in a statement.

Why? is Mr Buffet a lurking Latocer? Grin

Buffet bought 15% (ish) of Burlington several years ago.

What is interesting about the purchase is he bought when share price was near an all time high.

You think Buffet thinks there is a boat load more play in rail...I think so.

Buffet thinks a more energy-efficient transportation system will become essential. We think he's right, don't we?

Yes, it will be essential, but it's also a pipe dream. The Commuter line that I ride into work can't even get the money to maintain the cars sufficiently.

Warren was on CNBC this morning... is cited a return of economic growth in a few years that will require efficient transportation.

I know, and I agree. We should have started when Europe and Japan did. It's like California trying to pour zillions into fast rail between LA and SF when they can't even keep the rickety trains they already have running.

Yeah, but I don't think he's thinking about "commuter rail" so much as things like, uh, food transportation, etc.
There's no way in hell we can keep shipping single (or double) trailers worth of shit across country in separate trucks, when you can pile them all on a huge train and do the same far more fuel-efficiently.   Sure, you'll have to truck them to their destination locally by truck, but having thousands of trucks crossing the country is hugely inefficient.

This year I celebrate 30 years of recording music and being an "activist" by giving up on both!  All of my available albums are now free downloads on the John Ludi website (as I'm damned if I'll spend the time and money to make any more of them):

Have you done the math on it?

Just like we're going back to rockets in our space program, instead of using the space shuttle, we're going to return to rail instead of trucks.  Turns out, I guess, that we were more advanced in the 1960s and before than we are today.

Some/Many may already know this, but Buffet is a mere boot black for the Rothschilds of the world.

Talk about rail systems, etc., while avoiding the central issue of our intrinsically evil money system is so much distraction.
