I shop.  And do food processing/storage and I'm working on fruit trees and bushes.  The more prepped I am, the less I have to be anxious about.  Works good!

I find something, anything, useful to do.  Whose result is advancing either my brain or my preps.  But, it really only kills time or alleviates the anxiety.

For what it is worth, I don't know how to just be still and enjoy something.  When I eat, I eat like a German.  When I play, I play like I am in the ninth inning, bases loaded.  Whatever I do, I get totally immersed in it to a fault that I wish a little birdy would just say...."whoa there big fella, chill out and enjoy the moment".

The main reason I bring it back to me, is that, it may be helpful to know....many, many others deal with this and we all have to find our release.

I haven't found mine yet.  But this board and questions like this, real questions, are actually helpful.

push yourself away from your keyboard.. turnoff your computer.. tv and radio..
go outside.. take death breaths.. look at the sky.. the trees.. sit in the sun..
get dress properly and take long walks down roads you've never been down..
and paths you've never walked down.. go to parks you've never been to..
walk around from end to end.. try that.. you'll feel less anxious.. sleep better too..

btw.. sounds crazy but one winter I chose to sleep in an unheated bedroom with
only sheets on the bed but no blankets.. yup it was cold.. could see my breath but
I wanted to experience it and challenge myself and see if could do it and I did Grin

I go for long hikes in the woods as much as possible.

The brother has a real cedar whole log Sauna up North, I wish I had one here. Take a long hot Sauna, you will sleep like a baby.

Smoke Cannabis to initially ease the anxiety and then receive it back ten fold.  Grin

Seriously, here is my list of things to try to ease it:

Drink some tea (caffinee free preferred)
Watch a favorite movie
Read a favorite book
Drink a few beers or have a few shots of any liquor of choice
Ride your bike for a while (this is what I did to combat anxiety or cabin fever)
Go for a walk on a nature trail
Listen to a calming classical composition
Meditate
Sex
Masturbation
Delving into a new hobby straight away

Any combination of those.  Though masturbating to classical music may be a bit bizarre.

Not if you smoke small amounts and at the right time in the right setting.

Just like a glass of wine may relax you, drinking a couple bottles, well you know.  Grin

I prefer prescription beta blockers, for a very legitimate medical condition.  One of the pleasurable side effects is a lack of anxiety.

Different people deal with everyday anxiety differently.  Some people need time to zen/zone out and chill.  Other people need to get regular intense exercise.  Other people need to formulate a plan to solve problems and work feverishly to implement that plan.  Others just need a supportive and nonjudgmental friend to vent to on a regular basis.  Everybody's different.  It's okay to be afraid of the unknown, afraid of death, afraid of future pain.  Most people are.  But you need a distraction, or another focus, to stop thinking about the fear, and start to actually live life to the fullest and enjoy whatever you've got.

Negative vibrations and the drastic unknown usually give me panic when I'm partaking.  Just imagine what a tried and true hallucinogen would do to me.  Cheesy

That's why I said 'setting'. Use it more as in meditation.

Thanks for the responses guys, it is very much appreciated.

I just went for a very long walk/run, and it helped tremendously. I think the exercise is just what I needed. I have considered taking up meditation, does anyone have a good source for some techniques that would help?

I meditate, listen to music, read philosophy.

Spend LESS time on this forum reading about doom. You can really overdose on all this stuff, when you can't do anything about 99% of it. That's why I haven't been around here as much.

I'm one of those who usually deals with anxiety by keeping busy--doing things, learning things, and organizing things. But I also engage in magic. You will laugh, but there is nothing like practicing magic to make you see what you really want. For me, anxiety often comes from not knowing what I can do, feeling stymied, not seeing options. Since the kind of magic I practice involves first identifying what your will is, I have to focus on that. I usually end up seeing a way to act and that alleviates the tension and anxiety.

A glass of port at the end of the day is also helpful.

I have a tough time with meditating, but I have been trying a meditation technique someone told me about. You imagine your aura flaring out of your body and zapping all the negative crap around you like some bug zapper. It really feels good.
