Based on things that have happened over the years, we keep in supplies for patching one another up - dressings, bandages, elastoplast, antiseptic, some essential oils, spray on plaster, slings, tweezers, suture needles and butterfly stitches, scissors etc. Not that we're accident prone or owt, lol. Well, he isn't.

Also soap, antihistamine, mild pain killers, eye wash, arnica lotion, laxative, anti-diarrhoea, women's things, dental kit, water purification tabs, waterproof matches. Can't think what else without looking.

It all gets used.

What about anti-biotics? Any way to get ahold of some legally without prescription?

Not in the UK, I don't think, free. We'll have to go back to Russian penicillin - garlic.

Didja know that "Headache Medicine" has caffeinne in it?  I figure if I run out of coffee, I'll be able to wean myself off caffeinne with these golden tablets Smiley

Mine has all the regular stuff, plus things like poison ivy/oak soap, cat first aid things, and flu preps.

I've got the usual first aid stuff and extra medicines put aside, but the most valuable IMO are two books - one on herbal medicines and the other on Amish folk medicine.  I figure when things run out, I'm gonna have to make my own.

Boric acid powder.  You can make rinses for various & assorted mucous membranes.
Keeps me from at least one trip to the eye doctor's per year.

Lordy, I have so much stuff, I couldn't possibly list it all. But, off the top of my head:

charcoal, 5 lbs. highest grade activated purchased in bulk
4000 grams of sodium chlorite to make MMS
homemade tincture with osha
homemade oil extractions: arnica, mullein flower, garlic
dried for teas: yarrow, mullein, horsemint (grows wild here), kinnikinnik (uva ursi), sage, juniper berries, red clover, echinacea, a bunch of others
100 of the most often used homeopathic remedies in a kit
first aid supplies, including ace wraps, ankle, wrist, elbow, knee wraps, lots of band aids etc.

I don't have any antibiotics, but if you want some, you can buy them through fish suppliers online.

Yes.  You can buy pennicilin at your local coop.  You can also by amoxycillin via your local pet store or online for your fish  Wink

A friend of mine just gave me the website for buying antibiotics for "fish." They are the same medication exactly as the stuff prescribed for people: http://www.revivalanimal.com

Go into the aquarium section and then to "fishmox" for amoxicillin for instance. It's cheap too.

Whatever you do though, don't buy any of the fluoroquinolones. Check this out for info: http://www.fqresearch.org/

Most feed stores have tetracycline, and amoxicillen.  Bunch more available online from animal suppliers--its all the same stuff, you just have to measure it yourself.

Sometimes for toothaches dentists will give you a 7 day course plus a refill in case the first course doesn't do it.  Get the refill and keep it in your freezer--according to the US military, antibiotics are good for over 15 years if kept in freezer.  And handy if you get another abcess.

Awsome! Thank you! I don't know alot about amoxicillin, or anti-biotics in general, but I did pull up an informative page on amoxicillin here: http://www.drugs.com/amoxicillin.html

Might be a good idea to print that out and keep it with the drug for future reference and safety.

Antibiotics are measured by milligrams, the most accurate way would be to get a metric food scale and measure dosage by weight.

Also many bags have the usual mammal dosage by weight of mammal, For instance .025mg/lb 3 times daily.  So for 1000 lb cow it would be 250mg for 100lb human it would be 25mg
