Please pass the link on to friends and/or family, high quality food at wholesale delivered to a local establishment once a month that you pickup! They have a search feature on their website to determine if a pickup location is near you. This is NOT about religion, this is about making sure there is food for hungry bellies. Angel Food Ministries is a nonprofit, nondenominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States.

Link to determine if a pickup location is available for you or loved ones. http://www.angelfoodministries.com/hosts.asp

If you would, there is a referral section on the online order form, please use my email address (email me through the LATOC message center and I will give you my email address associated with Angel Food referrals) on your first order so I can donate the free food to familys/people in need in my local area. 1 free Signature Box per 10 referrals for new customers. Same referral offer works for you after your first order when friends/family place orders online and use your referral email address. It would be appreciated, otherwise the free food would go unused. I previously had my email address typed in this message but I have started receiving spam and/or sly remarks so I had to delete it.

Blessings by the box

Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month's menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60. Comparison shopping has been done across the country in various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78. A $2 convenience fee is charged per box to cover credit card fees, if your order is made in person at your local host site (cash or money order only, no personal checks accepted) there are no added fees.

Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store. There are no secondhand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.

The following link is a blog used for discussions concerning Angel Food and for finding monthly discount codes. Each month Angel Food offers a discount coupon for orders placed online. Or google angel food ministries for discount codes, they are easy to find for each month as they do change.

Food stamps accepted for this food distribution program.

The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Stamp program has been instrumental in helping Americans get back on their feet.  Angel Food shares their vision to help those who need help, and has partnered with the USDA to support and accept orders using food stamps.

Edited to add: I talked with the company at length Thursday 10/29, I learned a lot of the host sites ARE LOOKING for places to donate unclaimed or donated food to, if you have a local charity/family that will pick up the unclaimed food on the delivery date they will be happy to give it away. Also learned many of the host sites have regulars that buy food just to donate and some host sites will give a signature box to a person that helps unload the trailer and breaks down the orders into appropriate boxes. Not all do this but many do, it never hurts to ask!

GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY EATING!

Don't remove it!  I am on food stamps and I located a place near me that is part of this network.  At least leave it up over the weekend.  Give people a chance to find it.  Thanks!

For those of you who are really destitute, please check out the dumpsters behind grocery stores.  30-40% of all food is thrown out because it has reached an arbitrary expiration date.

Generally 6:00pm is the best time because they have to throw out the bread and expired dairy.  Winter is the best time to dumpster dive for obvious reasons.  Bring a broomstick with a hook attached to it because most of the food is in large garbage bags and you have to snag it and bring to you.  Don't jump in.  It will crush the food and there is a bad sludge on the bottom of the dumpster.  Use discretion.  Bread is good, Eggs are good (carton thrown out if one egg is broken).  Canned goods, some frozen goods.  Meat is a no-no, but produce is good.

I roomed with the king of the dumpster divers.  During the three years we shared a house, I only spent $150 on groceries and that was for delicacies that I couldn't live without.

BTW,  if the dumpster is locked then it is illegal to dumpster dive in that dumpster.  Generally there is one good store manager in town that doesn't like to see all that food go to waste.

I participated in a similar program out in CA several years ago--it was called SHARE I think--and it was well worth it and a real help with the grocery bills.

My niece in Illinois uses Angel Food.  I wish we had it here in California.  Or, at least, within 50 miles.  I think we are all going to be helping put together boxes like this from our own garden here pretty soon.  This is just a wonderful service.  There is a website www.hillbillyhousewife.com that is a supplement to the Angel Ministries.

Check this one out:

http://www.thetreasurebox.org/index.php

The Treasure Box provides families and individuals with a substantial box of grocery store quality food retailing between $65-100 for just $30 each. The Treasure Box cultivates relationships with more than 500 major food manufacturers across the country to purchase and provide top quality, nutritious food at sizeable volume discounts to the general public.

Each Treasure Box contains between 21-25 pounds of high quality, frozen foods, including chicken, pork, beef, or seafood, as well as vegetables, fruit, a side dish and a dessert. One Treasure Box is enough food to nutritiously feed a family of four lunch and dinner for almost a week or a senior citizen for nearly a month.

I found an Angel Food participating group not far from me, so I am going to call Monday and place an order, which I will then pick up in mid-November, so I will report back on the experience and food quality.

"Nov/09 has a 10% discount code for the "signature box" it is 10FALLSP1"

I just tried to order online using this discount code--I ordered the "signature box", which is the regular box of menu items (they have specialty boxes too--just meat, just veggies, etc.) and I could not use this code.  it said that I "did not select a qualifying menu item to redeem this code".  I'm wondering if this code is for their special Thanksgiving holiday box?

I could not find any information about whether they have pkgs for people with allergies.  I'd like to find out if they have a gluten free package.

They have something called an "Allergen Free Food Box" which they list as being free from Peanuts, Soybeans, Milk, Eggs, Fish, Crustacea, Tree Nuts, and Gluten (wheat, rye, and barley).  It's just some meat products, but it's something.  Info is here:

Thanks, booklvr.  I also see that they have an all fruit and veggie box.  That would be gluten free, of course.  Then, there's one that's mostly meat.  If the sausage were gluten free that would also be GF, I assume.

well i placed an order and added the email address as a referral .. so hopefully you get enough orders to help out your local community!

the site is  simple to navigate and very well laid out and I will be passing this information on to other people... the fb blog page is also useful!

thanks so much for this... in fact during winter (when travel around here gets sketchy because of snow) I would have to travel 7 miles to pick up an order rather than 15 miles just to do ordinary grocery shopping....... so it is a win win situation for me!

Smiley

AGAIN I suggest this post goes in the BEST OF LATOC... (if you agree can you hit report to moderator people so it comes to their attention.... it seems the easiest way).

THANK YOU!
