We're saved!!!

We're saved!!!

Oh wait...

Do you think that folks will be able to pay their rent with an I.O.U. backed by employers' wishful thinking about the future?

Once again we have economic "news" that is nothing more than hallucinations fueled by desperation.

What if I told you that, somewhere on this island, there is a very large box and whatever you imagined, whatever you wanted to be in it when you opened that box, there it would be? What would you say about that, John?

I don't doubt the sincerity of those polled. This is a legit survey and takes into account not only big but small business' .

But they are surveying these people based on their future expectation in their CURRENT frame of mind.

If I had taped these meeting we had with our CEO at my former company it would be laughable given what has happened. I worked for a large auto part supplier(Forture 100 company). Back in 2007, with all sincerity they were planning for a CONSERVATIVE run rate of about 15 to 16 million vehicles. The run rate is the number of cars sold in the US market in a year. The run rate for years was well above 19 million. Our CEO in response to the recession and higher oil prices was to be CONSERVATIVE and was willing to concede that in fiscal year 2008 that we'd have a low ball figure of 15 to 16 million vehicles sold in the US market.

THE NUMBER WAS BELOW 10 MILLION!!

So I do not doubt that these owners really want to hire. They have cut WAY into the bone on their layoffs and the people left working are overworked and over stressed and they need help. BUT what happens when Q4 gets here and things are still not visibly improving?

We had 530K job losses last month and until I see that number AT ZERO or better, then there is no recovery underway.

As much as it pains me to say this, as I am unemployed, the only way employment gets straightened around is when they cut off long term unemployment benefits to people and they are FORCED to take on a job that pays them much less than they were willing to accept before. TRUST ME I am already preparing myself for that reality. I am already planning around making somewhere in the 10 to 14 dollar an hour range. When I was in the 23 to 26 range before my layoff.
