It shouldn't surprise anyone that the average length of time for unemployemnt is currently at an all time high and quickly rising.  If you lose your job, you can expect to be out of work for at least six months , and that's assuming it doesn't continue to get worse, which it most assuredly will.

Also, note that the average length of unemployment has been creeping upwards long term, even in good times.  In retrospect, a blowup in an economy that by and large no longer produces anything was inevitable.
