OK, as promised, this is a multi-part series I'm compiling to teach GSW management from a post crash perspective. Study carefully, your love ones might one day appreciate these skills.

This is just the introduction, tomorrow I will be demonstrating with a group of firefighters, who need the training too, and with manikins on how to provide treatment and what to do specifically. I will also be going over what you need in your medical latoc kit....you do have a medical kit, right? Not just some First Aid kit you picked up at Wally World....right? Get one, there are all kinds of tactical medical kits available on-line, or email me and I'll send you one for $150 (gmegacode911@aol.com).

Below are a few pictures that I'll use to illustrate several scenario's and how to effectively manage each one. Plus it'll give the more squeamish of you some time to adjust, and think about what you would do when its a love one that's been hit by a armed MZB.

9mm to the foot, soft tissue trauma, no bone fx's to deal with. Very manageable with a good medical kit.

9mm to the face...missed maxiofacial region, very manageable.

GSW to the forearm, open compound fx to the ulna, survivalable with possible disability and infection/and or amputation.

Not survivalable without a surgeon....and even then - HIGH RISK.

Each series of posts will have video's and plenty of gore to immerse ourselves. A likely event once the guns start shooting.

thank you so much.
Grisly yes, but it's something that we all need to be aware of.

Damn...that's just...(wish I had not seen this AFTER I had lunch).

But yeah, probably a good idea to get skilled in these areas...though if a couple of the above (besides a simple pass through) happened to me, I'd be more inclined to just finish the job and go on to the next level.

Really curious about the 2nd pic...no blood?

Good video...you're off to a great start!

mega, I honestly think you are THE most important person on the forum.  This is horrible to look at, but we definitely need to look and learn.

Thank you so much for this.  I'm going for a walk and then I'm going to come back and listen and learn.

Mods, could we stickie this?

Done. I have the GSW class scheduled for 7pm down at the fire station today, we'll also be going over CPR/AED training as well, and when I get back I'll upload to utube and post.

I went into New Orleans today and did some casual filming retracing my Katrina account and commenting on events at the actual locations. I'm currently uploading these video's as we speak and will be posting to my Katrina diary shortly.

Wound healed, scarred in, and was never surgically corrected. It's a good example of a person's ability to fight off infection without anti-biotics. Obviously, this shooting occured in a 3rd world country. I imagine this person has some speech deficits and problems keeping his oral cavity moist.

Hey, let us not leave out Eyes!

Grisly, yeah. Much needed, just-in-case, oh yeah.

It is educational to see what real bullets do to real people. On that last photo, what hit the patient? Jeez. He/she didn't make it, right? I do not mean to seem insensitive. But what kind of bullet does that kind of profound damage?

I think this is one of the most eye opening threads we've had.
there are literally hundreds of thousands of people armed now, believing they'll just shoot anyone that comes near them, I just don't think people have any damned idea how horrendous a gunshot would can be. I think they believe it's like on tv or in a video game.
This thread is so important and thanks MegaD for taking the time to share all this with us.
and include Eyes, in the official MegaD fan club!  Grin

Shotgun?

The reading I've done (mostly Lee Child and McNab/Ryan) tells me it's extremely difficult to land multiple shots in a person's head. The body starts to fall and the gun itself is moving all over the place. Takes LOTS of PROPERLY INSTRUCTED practice. In a combat situation you're only half as good as your BEST day at the range, due to adrenalin overriding your fine motor controls...

Remember, perfect practice makes perfect. If your practice is crap, all you'll be is perfectly crap.

So I think it would be very difficult to land multiple large caliber hits on that last victim to do that kinda damage and most MZBs-in-training have neither the time, money, discipline or ability to buy decent shooting instruction and maintain a high level.

Self inflicted shotgun to the lower chin in the above mentioned pic. These pictures are not as horrific as they can get, oh and btw, the person is dead.  But here's another case where the person lived and sufferred catastrophic damage to his face. This type of trauma is very common with suicides...or in this case - attempted suicides.

and here's his x-ray

Also, here's a link to some very gruesome GSW pics http://www.davesems.com/Injuries.html , including one to the face that is so traumatically devastating that it's unbelievable that the person actually survived it...just scroll down.

I just got back from class and for some reason utube is taking an inordinate amount of time uploading today's tour for my Katrina diary that it's too late for me to edit, upload, and get posted. I have to work tomorrow and get up at 430am. I didn't expect so many personnel to show up for the CPR class - 10. Took way longer than expected and by the time I got to GSW training I could only briefly go over it (30 mins). More will follow though. Like I said this a multi-part post in which I will seek to train anyone interested on how to effectively deal with GSW's. It will be comprehensive.

Megadoom, thank-you for the response and the link-I'll check that a bit further in the programme you have going here but I'm not quite up to it yet. It is heartbreaking to think someone would do that to themself, and again, it is educational to really understand what  bullets really do.

I have to tell you that I am truly awed by your continued willingness to keep going to work. Awed.

Hehe, I think a "warning, graphic photos" label would make some folks feel better.
