I want to stock up on thyroid medicine in the event of TEOTWAWKI, how would I go about doing this?  Ask the dr for a 5 yrs prescription for thyroid meds? I have also started taking kelp and it really seems to make me more energetic and I have also stopped eating endagame to help my thyroid functiion.

Armour has a shorter shelf life than that. You could ask the doc to double your prescription
in case you get let off or make up something. Use half, save half.

Word,
I also have a thyroid issue that has been treated for years with armour.

Why don't you substitute Levothyroxin and Cytomel with an added kelp/thyroid health supplement?
That is my plan suggested by my doctor when and if I cannot get any more. So far, after the lack of availability during the summer, I am back to being able to get it, just not in my dosage, so I take 1 pill then 1 1/2 the next day. Very scientific, I assure you  Tongue

My doctor was livid as he felt this was a purely financial conflict. I had to chuckle; he asked me if I felt I had been 'harmed' by armour thyroid to which I replied "no".  He felt that was evidence enough that there was no 'issue' with the product.

Good luck.

Thanks you for the suggestions
Now I know what to say to the Dr. when I go in.
Like I said, if it were MY Dr. this would not be a problem.
I really miss her - and hope that she is okay

We raise pigs on pasture...I wonder if I should start freezing the thyroids and posting them in the classifieds? Well, maybe not, my folks would have a fit.

I thought about pigs  Wink

What I have learned from this whole situation
In a collapse I will not survive without medication - unless I can get thyroid from a pig - and it actually works.

Did you know there is such a thing as thyroid induced coma???
Quote

Myxedema coma is a loss of brain function as a result of severe, longstanding low level of thyroid hormone in the blood (hypothyroidism). Myxedema coma is considered a life-threatening complication of hypothyroidism and represents the far more serious side of the spectrum of thyroid disease.

It is rare - thank heavens - but if people could not get thyroid medication - I can see this becoming a problem

I am now on 100 mcg of synthroid and 25 mcg generic cytomel. I have to go back in 2 weeks
I learned that without thyroid medication my mind does not function and I am kind of in a daze. Weak - almost felt like someone had drained my blood! I could not think clearly. I didn't do even normal daily activities - took too much energy.
This is  only the 2nd day on an increased medication dosage - and already I am feeling better. Still low energy - but better.

If a collapse happens and hypothyroid people could not get medication - we would be in trouble. And it wouldn't take long for us to deteriorate

I learned how important the thyroid gland is to normal daily functioning.

I started taking kelp capsules, 2500 IU of vitamin D3 daily, and astralagus. I also cut down on the non organic veggies I eat. I take levothyroid too (75mg). I am feeling a lot better. I think the environmental pollution really brings you down even if you are taking meds for this thing.
