You mean ignoring by not making any posts about doing what you can with what you have?  Grin

I vote that we ignore DoomandGloom, let this thread die a natural death, and continue prepping as we each see fit.

You mean if you didn't ignore me you'd stop prepping as you see fit? Damn. I'm good.

Well, you know that you breathe, eat, drink, wear clothes, buy things somehow, live somewhere, use a form/s of energy, take meds/use a doctor, do personal and household sanitation, transport yourself, entertain yourself, communicate with others, get information, etc, etc, etc -- EVERYDAY.

What if the *sources* of those items dried up for 3 days, a week, 2 weeks, a year, forever?

What would you do in a disaster like Katrina with the resources you have now?

What is something that you could do in the next hour and day and week and month to get yourself in a better position?

Buy something? Move? Fix something? Reach out? Get your teeth fixed? Sell things? What?

 Tongue

Okay that's red cross standard - have extra food and water. I get it. I'm prepared!!!

sounds like its been a bit heated over the last 13 pages. but just to comment on the idea of the thread.

no you cant prepare for what is unknown. you cant prepare for an event specifically... duh!
but you sure can acknowledge that a storm is coming, and if your aware of that - then you wont be caught in mental shock.
whatever happens - it will be taking away your job, your oil, your food, your way of life. these generalized things you can prep for.

living sustainably, skilling up, eliminating your dependancies, having a bob, thinking about what youd do if you had to do without, etc. they are all good things. i think its better than insurance in its own way.

the milkyway blackhole could burp and nuke us all in an instant. or your could get hit by a bus tomorrow.
you cant be worried about everything, but when some things are obvious - your not going to ignore it or just give up.

Thanks for the "duh", that explains it now. I think the world is too complex and too unpredictable to prepare for "doom". But I think instead of riling the board I should have just said was "good luck with your preps"!

I can't believe you are still after this. I'm going to UPS you a fucking bucket of rice and a canvas tarp for a tent so we can technically call you a prepared/hoarded up/doomer and finish this thread. PM me your address and I'll take pictures of the shit for proof.  Grin

To my mind, perfect prepping would be to have the world lose all access to cheap power and find out a few months later that it happened.

Nice one!!!!

I watched some crazy documentary that the earth is going to stand still in 2012 and 1/3 the earth will be burned to shreds as the sun beats down for three days. So (assuming that's true and of course I do) you have 2/3 a chance of being on the right side of the planet. Not bad odds at all!
