Last week marked Week 5 for me and my walking desk! On Thursday, I left to go to Long Beach, CA, for a quick little 5-day vay-cay to visit family. Here are the two concerns that came to mind upon taking off on the airplane: (1) Is being away from my walking desk for 5 days going to cause me to gain back the 4.8 lbs I've lost over the last 4 weeks, and (2) Will I miss my walking desk or will I secretly be happy to get a break?

Sad fat  bitch.

No SHIT!! I think he missed the point. Umm...here's an idea, America, ditch the fucking computers, all of them!

The sad thing is some people actually use that dumbass thing. All shame has been lost.

Seriously?  Ditch all the computers?  You do realize that you're using one right now, right?  And excuse me for having a job that requires computer use.  What the fuck, dude.  Angry

I am not saying this is not true, but citing one single book as a source for this, is not enough.

Please do not particpate any further in this thread. Thank you, that is all.

This is funny, myself and two co-workers were having a conversation the other day about how Asian people who sit in the "squatting frog" on a regular basis (not just a few minutes but for a hour at a stretch while fishing, cooking, eating etc) have less lower GI problems then us Westerners.

And fewer prostate and ovarian problems.

The only reason your job requires a computer is because the computer exists. Nothing requires a computer...it's just that their existence makes it seem so.

Not to say all things containing a magicchip (microchip) are bad...but seriously, it's gotten WAY out of hand in this world. Using a treadmill while typing on a computer only proves my point. Is that where you want your job to go? Next it will be generating your own electricity using a treadmill to power your computer. Sounds like a dream job to me  Roll Eyes

I'm definitely going to have to check out that book.

I've been interested in the topic of chakras for years, as well as in anything related to the effect that modern life has on us. Thanks for the recommendation!

As an aside, when I'm at home reading or watching a movie, I virtually always sit on the floor. I just feel better there.

What if I told you that, somewhere on this island, there is a very large box and whatever you imagined, whatever you wanted to be in it when you opened that box, there it would be? What would you say about that, John?

At work I find it very helpful if I get up and walk around every 30 minutes or so. I also do Kegel exercises in between.

Sleeping on the ground works for me as well.

These are long recommended to counter the effects of modern sitting.

same here Col. I enjoy sleeping on the floor or ground.
I also have always sit cross-legged and drive my friend nuts if I go in her house and move her chair to sit in and then sit in it cross-legged! LOL

I remember my dad yelling at my step-sister for this over and over again.

Chairs?  Eh...  But a couch?  I love a comfy couch.  Better than a sofa or davenport.

Easier said than done in a nation where the majority of occupations require you to remain stationary for extended periods of time, only to hop into a car and be stationary for a little while longer in traffic.

I'm impressed that your researching chakras Matt, let me know if you find a really good way of opening them. Probably staying away from our modern lifestyle would do it.

ISA = Absolute Stillness. I have been warned to use EXTREME caution regarding these disciplines. I now offer it to the reader.

There is no growth without pain. Be very cautious about attempting to open a chakra without first establishing a relationship with your own Inner Teacher. In most cases, you will fail without the Guidance first. Nonetheless, you could seriously hurt yourself embarking on an ego-alien journey, as it were.

For starters, and this is for males aged 18-45, if you think you are ready for realignment of energy, do not engage in coitus or masturbation for a month, at least--yet, more like 3 months. Then, and only then, have you demonstrated a little willingness.

Matt, that was a fascinating read.  Though I take exception to her characterization of people with high IQ.   Grin  Actually, no, I don't, I agree but the underlying issue is just more pronounced with many people of high intelligence.  It isn't high intelligence, per se.

I particularly liked the part about holding a newborn baby with caution...all the effort put forth to ensure the new baby isn't harmed. Mom wheel chaired to the front door of the hospital for the sake of not tripping and dropping the baby. Once there the baby is loaded into the car and sent on it's way barreling down the highway at 60+mph. Yep...the car is MUCH safer than mommy's arms.  Roll Eyes

Exactly! I was very impressed by that section too.
