Fish, it is that old grief and loss thing....it just keeps going on and on. You think you are to the end of it in terms of what cherished notions you have had, and then new information comes along that yet again becomes a new bummer. But this is what facing reality gets to be all about.

No no no.  Im not denying reality, im perfectly comfortable with what will come.  I think you guys are mistaking my point.  I know things are going to hit the fan, no tech fix, but that doesnt mean their are not good people in the world in places known for being corrupt.  i dont want this system to continue as it is, but i dont for one second believe this is it.  humans will come back again and learn from us.

I hope you're right, fish.  I hope we haven't destroyed the planet to the point that, as James Lovelock believes, the only people that will survive are those living near the north pole.

And by North Pole i hope he really means everyone above the 40 degree latitude.

Thats messed up...i dont want to hike 350 miles, and i dont own a boat to cross lake erie so sabre gonna have to come pick me up or something.  That might be a problem with the whole Niagra falls and so forth.  I sure as hell am not going to divert through Detroit either! I know how much you'd like to see me hike through detroit while trying to escape armageddon.

No, fish, not even on my worst enemy would I want them to have to hike through any city after TSHTF.

And you're not my worst enemy.  I guess I really don't have a worst enemy.

Maybe Dougie.   Tongue

It used to be Galt's dad, but I don't care about that anymore.  I wouldn't even want to see him go through a city after TSHTF.

Yeah, the city, a no no.  The rate of seemingly random crimes and strange shit has shot up exponentially in the inner city where i work.  Everyday we've got shootings.  Several murders per week now.  Robberies and vehicle break ins are way up.  I dont know how people are surviving right now, they dont have jobs. And i dont know how they eat or do much of anything.  Nevermind the issue of urban sprawl.  The ghetto has now moved into nearly all suburbs.  Crimes are not limited to the cities.  I live out of county thank god, on the very edge of suburbia, literally.  Its the suburb, me, and a corn field/rail line to freedom in my backyard.  I thank god i ended up in this place.  I made a wise decision even though i pay more for it.  If i could find a way to make a living outside of a metro area, i would.  I dont see that happening however.

Hey, fish, seems you're starting to "gitit".   Cheesy  There be a lot of really good people on this planet, but goodness generally is supported by a life of relative ease and lack of fear.  Who knows what we might become when truly desperate?  That said, there have been good people who got a lot more than they expected they'd ever get, and they'll do anything, even murder today, to keep it.  I believe one of the greatest failings I have is believing that I am superior because I am human.  My history tells a different story.
