It's a shame he won't be able to do it again for the Sophomore year.

Maybe you should change your name to BuzzKill.  Grin Seriously though, he's going to bike mechanic school in July. Gotta have a trade to fall back on.

Why not?  Is getting a 4.0 GPA impossible for two years in a row?

Edit: Congrats Brian, or at least congrats to your son.  My daughter has 2 B's that are stopping her from a 4.0 after two years.

Because unless he's kicking it in a nice plush private school or unless there's some huge monstrous fucking miracle thats going to make all this going away (haha funny funny) I highly doubt there will be any funds for classes in public universities. Just a hunch.
And if my name is Buzzkill at least it's not Flouride-drinker.

Congrats to your kid, I know he worked hard to get there. I hope things work out in the long run.

Calles, sometimes you can be a real ass, you know?

Damn impressive, Brian.  Maybe he thinks pop will shoot him if he doesn't, eh?

Good on 'em for bike mechanic school, too.  Good trade, now and post-crash.  As you well know.

This upcoming school year will be the final attempt to keep the status quo.

The following year, things will look mighty different.

If I were to guess, I'd say there will still be classes in some way or another in the 2010-11 school year.

However, self education will experience a resurgence.

And 19th/early 20th century programs like lyceums, and chatauquas will return.

indicate an ability to absorb material, process it, and produce something of merit.

Now the key is to ensure these grade-earning skills are applied to activities that will be necessary in our present and future.

Congrats!!!
I know how hard it is to get your grades up there (I'm currently at 3.03, higher then my older brother. Something which I'm not allowed to gloat about, although when my brother says something stupid, my dad leans over and whispers in my ear that my GPA is higher Grin), and if your son's learning a trade, much of luck to him! I'm thinking of going that way too, if nothing happens in the next 2-3 years, I'm going to go to a tech college and getting involved in the radio program  Tongue

Civilization isn't going away tomorrow.  Or even next year.

Congrats to your son, Brian.

Thread revival? Well, thanks again. He is now concluding his summer as a barely employed libertine and preparing to re-enter the Hallowed Halls of higher ed. Still not sure what it is he wants to do but, he is forging ahead.

I used to be crazy about grades when I was in school/uni, but I find that when I review resumes of applicants to the company I work with, I barely glance at education, even though it's for strictly technical positions.  Professional experience is by far what most matters, the rest being issues elicited by interview questions.  Within my professional networking, I've noticed that others go along similar lines.

My best advice to those in, or heading into, higher education is to get hands on experience through internships, co-op, and/or volunteering.
