http://informationclearinghouse.info/article23068.htm

Article by Paul Craig Roberts.
Pretty grim reading I have to admit, but Mr Roberts lays it out very well. You don't have to be an expert in the financial boondoggling, to understand why the economy won't recover. Thanks to globalisation, outsourcing and bubbles, there is no real economy left beyond paper shuffling. Even though I don't live in the US, many things discussed in this article are the exact same things that have been going on in Europe, minus the reserve currency role, of course.

Yeah being dubbed the father of "Reaganomics" isn't something to be proud of, but I still wouldn't dismiss everything he says because of that.
I get the sense he isn't happy about that mantle anyway.
You know how the retired generals are often really critical about the wars they fought in? I think it's the same with Roberts. He has no political ambitions left, so he is not worried about the consequences of what he says.

He knows the Reganomics shit was wrong and He know's what going on. What, are you saying Wikipedia is a bastion of Truth? Either way, DR. Roberts is a lot more knowledgable on how the economy really works then anyone on these forums so it would be wise to think about what he is saying and not just blow it off because you are trapped in a false left-right paradigm and can't get past the fact that he worked for the enemy.

I've been reading Roberts' editorials since the late 80s, when he left the Reagan administration, and he's been undergoing a gradual, but radical, shift in his thinking over the years. Especially in the last decade.

does it take a PHD in economics to discern that an economy that is based to a large percentage on everyone washing everyone elses laundry is doomed ?
that there are only 3 laundry washers paying into every retired washers pension fund ?

No I guess not. It's just that when a regular guy says that the economy is about to tank, he gets laughed at. People tend to listen to "experts" and Dr Roberts has more common sense than all the Krugmans blathering on the telly.

Reminds me of that scene in Top Secret

General Streck, German High Command: [talking on the phone] What is the condition of Sergeant Kruger?
[pause]

General Streck, German High Command: Very well, let me know if there is any change in his condition.
[Hangs up]

General Streck, German High Command: He's dead.
