I just watched it.

Was okay. Nothing covered I wasn't already fully aware of. In fact, I'd say it soft pedaled.

The 'deleted scenes' were the best part. They could have just shown the deleted scenes.

Guess those were the bits that had got them wobbling on the libel high wire.

They did do a nice job of trying to talk around the new libel laws viz a viz food products.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_libel_laws

I can understand why they didn't dig into that more deeply. Good on'em for even going there.

They did connect Clarence Thomas to Monsanto. That was nice. Not a lot of folks knew that.

I do get rocked back on my heels from time to time by what folks /don't/ know about the state
of farming. But in complete fairness, as recently as 20 years ago, I thought those chicken houses
that were starting to show up in the hollars, and the Wampler Longacre feed trucks hauling up and down
the roads were a /good/ thing. 'Letting these side-hill hard scrabble farmers finally make a living'.
That's what I thought anyway. WRONG.

and the flies, ,

The vignette of the chicken farmers, again, the bulk of which is in the deleted scenes. That pretty much explains
it. Folks on the hook for millions of dollars, earning maybe 20K or so a year at the end of it, or just going
broke. Yeah, it's intentional.

The documentary is pretty good as a primer. Things are much much much more grim than the documentary lets
on. I expect the libel laws are why. This country is still very much anti-labor, and has been for pretty much my whole
life. They did a neat job showing how 'we the people' use the immigration policies and their police to help keep
a boot on the neck of the workers. The case of 'Work americans won't do'. I say it's work NO ONE should do.
No, it's not really about 'affordable' food, it's about, always has been about, will always be about really huge profits.

blah blah blah.

Yeah, see it. It's all true, and it's much worse than all that.

BTW, 'We the People' have known this since the 20s. 'We the people' have chosen to leave it be. It's all about the money.

Just watched it.  I was worried in the first 30 min or so that it was just gonna be a PETA tear jerker - granted the animals are treated like shit, but ... there is more to the story.  Thankfully they covered some of it... some about patents on food, Mansanto strong arm techniques.  I would have liked to have seen more about pesticide usage, subsidies, etc.  Scratched the surface of using petrol-based chemicals but no diving into peak oil - just a tad about how when oil prices go up food prices go up.

I disagree that "we the people" know all this stuff - I think the vast majority of the sheeple have no idea.

Really keeps my motivation high to expand my garden, shop at farmers markets & the one food co-op we have that has locally grown stuff.

This is such a huge topic that the makes of the film could not do much more then scratch the surface. Hit the bigger topics and focus on a few key areas.

i almost think keeping it shallower in information might be a good thing, throw the book at the sheep and throw in peak oil irrigation and droughts, in coming diseases and you will just scare the crap out of them and not get the desired affect. The goal is to pull the collective sheep's head out of its ass not scare it and make it go deeper because of fear.

And we have to remember the LATOC'ers are not the normal population. Even my semi informed friends have no clue at the big picture. hell i don't know the whole thing. Other then there is a big shit pile and when it hits the fan it will get very very messy.

Just saw this, too.  Craziest part to me was when the guy drilled a hole in the side of that cow to examine its stomach contents...   Shocked

Saw it.
It is like "The Future of Food" light version.

Get the Future of Food. It's WAY better. Much more detailed with higher grade information and great interviews.
I would not waste my time with Food Inc. I was disappointed to say the least.

Just watch this film. It is very good for its target. It for the "sheep" to start to learn about whats going on, people that "are in the know" already know these things and much more. I think the goal of the film is to get the word out to the Masses and try and get things to change. Knowing whats going on and doing something about changing it are 2 different things.

I hope that this movie gets seen by everyone that eats food.

Hopefully they make a sequel that is a little more hard core.  What's the best flick in terms of PO for the masses?  Is there one?

I still find "The End of Suburbia" excellent on PO issues.

There is a very good Austrian movie called "We Feed the World" which made quite an impression in European cinemas a few years back. It is about the way we produce our food today, which was a real eye opener for me. It deals more with globalization issues than with PO, but it still is a very good documentary. The language is German, but I found a version with English subtitles online:

Beware, though. You will probably never want to eat chicken again after watching this.
