Today's word is arrears.  From Wikipedia:

Arrears (also sometimes known as rearage) is a legal term for a type of debt which is overdue after missing an expected payment. It is also used (in the form in arrears) for payments that occur at the end of a period. Arrears accrue from the date on the first missed payment was due. The term is often used to describe being late with rent, bills, royalties (or other contractual payments), child support, or other legal financial obligation.  An obligation is said to be in arrears if it is past due.

"Arrears" is, further, not a late payment or charge for late rent, but the state of being late for rent.

Oh yeah, I forgot to use it in a sentence:

"Accountant error has placed Jon's federal taxes in rearage."

Okay, the bigguns' group butt-shot has completely scuttled whatever dignity was accorded the Unofficial LATOC Finance Word of the Day.  Thank you, Maximus, and thank you, bigguns.

tsk tsk tsk   Boys, boys!   Roll Eyes

Please remember that there's a very thin, thong-like line between "showing lots of ass" and "showing a little class". *haughty sniff*

Continue on, Maitreya. I like your financial word o' the day idea.  Cheesy

There's a joke here somewhere:

Russian site with massive women
Russia has access to the Baltic
Baltic Dry Index is a measure of global trade in commodities
The BDI uses measurements in tonnage . . .
