So apparently these numbers are only people who are collecting unemployment benefits... wow so in other words total bullshit. How do people actually take that seriously? What about all the people not collecting benefits (they dont last forever). The real numbers are so much higher.

I live in Indiana... it is bad here but much worse in northern Indiana.
I'm in the extreme south - in fact can see Louisville KY from my house!

Speaking of which, Thunder over Louisville is still going to happen tomorrow (A big fireworks display  as a kick-off to the Kentucky Derby )
My street will be closed and thousands of people will walk past my house
Already airplanes are flying over - The Blue Angels put on an air show - practically on my roof!!!

Official number in Portland is over 12%, meaning real unemployment there is 18-20%.  City of Portland is probably more like 8-10%...so what does that tell you about rural Oregon?  The coast?  Medford?

Stick a fork in em.  They're done.

Wow. Crazy.

This is an excerpt from bob chapman's newsletter. Mr Chapman encourages his subscribers to disseminate his words, so there is no copyright infringement here.

The economy sunk 6.3% in the 4th quarter and we see the same results in the first quarter. In the second half of the year we see minus 3% to 4% and for the first three quarters of 2010 the GDP will be even. The economy will continue to deteriorate and unemployment will grow. In 2010 we will see GDP fall to a minus 10% and from then on out it is anyone’s guess what will happen. Why do you think the government’s preparing for revolution?

I just scored an interview for a part-time job during the week to supplement my full-time weekend job for a total of 48 hours a week minimum. I am working as hard as possible to prepare for the shiznit.

The irony of having generally docile, apathetic nine to fivers rioting and protesting in the streets to somehow win back their unsustainable consumptive lifestyles is hilarious.  Shouting and screaming at how the ones who caused this will "rue the day they fucked over the citizens", yet the criminals (e.g. bankers and politicians) will be safe somewhere in the Bahamas.  Lighting cigars, sipping on expensive rum, and listening to the sea's harmonious rhythm.

And all that jazz.

Somehow Idiocracy comes to mind.  If you've seen the film, you know the lawyer who just says "Shut up" whenever he hears something he doesn't like.  I can just imagine whole hordes of folks marching and yelling "Shut up!" to everyone and each other.

One of my son's just moved from GA. to Seattle, he said that's where the jobs are? Could someone please tell me what jobs are available in Seattle or the surrounding area for a person with no real job skills or education Huh

I don't know - but my daughter is currently in Seattle - for a couple of weeks.
She went there though to get her stuff out of storage and move it back to St. Louis
She has been in Seattle for 2 1/2 years. Rent was too high - $900 a month for an efficiency

I have been traveling the I-5 corridor for 7 years now, traffic is definitely lower that usual. It was even more pronounced during the 4.50/gal gas period but volume was replaced by people driving slower (seemed that way anyhow).

One real bonus is the lack of RV's.....nothing screws a long drive more than a flotilla of land whales chugging up a mountain pass and burning the break pads down to the rotors on the way back down.
