Color me shocked. Newsmax, the Fox-like, Florida-based conservative news organization with millions of readers around the globe, has bitten the doomer apple in a big way.

I have been receiving their emails for a couple of years because sometimes something interesting filters through among the conservative rants, sensationalistic junk, and brazen huckstering for various "wellness" products (as should be expected from the fact that they have a number of real, solid journalists in their stable of contributors; look up the Wikipedia article on them for details). Today's Moneynews email (from their Newsmax's Moneynews subsite) smashed through anything they've yet sent. And since there's no copyright protection notice included with their missives, I figured hey, why not reprint some of it here for all to see.

Note that the email was written by Lee Bellinger, who runs Independent Living and has written some "Brace for the Greatest Depression"-style articles for Moneynews in the past. He has been forecasting financial doom and using it to huckster his preparation books and products for a long time. But the tone and content of this current email take the cake.

Also note that I don't necessarily believe or endorse everything he says below. And be warned that Bellinger's prose is characterized by the worst type of overheated, cartoonish "Gee, wow!"-ism. I'm posting it here simply because I'm amazed at the fact that it pings so many of the standard and familiar LATOC and doomer concerns and just went out to hundreds of thousands of people via a mainstream news source.

Believe me, a lot of this doom is just because the dems are in power.  They weren't beating the tinfoil drum when Bush & Cheney were trashing the constitution.

Exactly... Now that the Repug's have something to be scared about, there are plenty of Tinfoil DVD's and alternative health products to be sold.

Today's Americans Don't Resemble the Hardy Depression-Era Generation

Not to be politically-incorrect, but the simple truth is millions of Americans who've never known anything but prosperity and easy-money have a militant expectation that society "owes" them something. And with so many families on the margins of survival already, the speed of the downward unemployment spiral is downright ominous (and unprecedented).

.

I disagree.  Contemporary Americans are very capable of handling the coming chaos and collapse ...

No kidding.  Just listen to Limbaugh for 5 minutes (sound of fingernails on chalkboard) and you'll learn that EVERYTHING is Obama's/Dem's fault.  The reason the market went up yesterday?  Obama was out of the country!  Criminy... it's that simple?  How did Jerome miss such an obvious economic sign?  /sarcasm
Still, this is some good doom and might require a complete re-calibration of my doom-meter as the needle hit the peg so hard it bent.
Oh, and love the pic mgcardin...

Looks like everything I've been discussing for the last 2 years summed up in one tidy little letter.

I have to admit, a part of me really finds it amusing that the radical right are raging against the man who happens to be black.

However, when I put my really really big tin foil hat on, I think it could be some sort of systemic induced seeds of a false revolution being sown.  I've seen why too much tin foil on Fox lately and feels like a manipulation even though it has elements of truth in it.  Next year at this time after the dollar run and 30% unemployment the nation will be ripe for a demagogue and what better scapegoat then an internationalist black man that the patriot right have been correct about from the start.

Former Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson confessed to a reporter he "worries every single night" about a possible bioterror attack on the U.S. food supply. "For the life of me," he said, "I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our food supply because it is the easiest thing to do".

This is the same Tommy Thompson on the board of Digital Angel, maker of the Veri-chip.

I wonder why any self-respecting conservative would want to quote him?

This is incredibly ignorant.  Under US copyright law, the copyright is implied even if there is no written notice.
