Matt- I have a question and thought it should be here in a thread in case anyone else needs the info.

I need to put in an order for some books, some of which are not advertised on your site. Is there a way to get to Amazon through your site so you'll get some kind of credit or commision even on books I ordered that are not listed at your books store?  I have gotten so much from your website, I'd like to give my business to you rather than  to other bookstores if it helps at all. I buy a TON of books by the way.

Thanks,

Quietnite

yep, just click on any of the amazon ads on LATOC and then punch in whatever it is you're looking to order and I'll earn a 7% or so commission. So if, for  instance, you look at the box on today's news page for "apocalypse chow" and punch in a search for "inflatable life raft" and order a $200 life raft I'll earn $14 or so. Yesterday, for instance, somebody ordered one of those fancy $200 Navy Seal watches even though I've never advertised it. In other words, it doesn't even need to be books. People will click on the links and buy all sorts of stuff. I don't see their names or personal info so maybe some day I should post some of the stranger things people have bought. You guys would get quite a hoot in some cases! I think once somebody ordered a 42 inch plasma screen and I was like "what the f--k is somebody on LATOC doing buying a 42 inch plasma screen on Amazon?" (Probably just a passer by who happened to click on one of the links)

The same is true for stuff on Ebay. I need to put up a page with links to Ebay and Overstock and other places that way if somebody wants to buy a laptop or whatever via ebay I can get a commission.

P.S.:

I'm moving this to breaking news and making it a sticky as I get this question alot and it does directly impact my finances.

Excellent. I guess that wasn't such a silly question after all! Thanks.

Um, does everyone know which site you mean?  The current thread has an Amazon ad running as a banner, and I don't think you mean to click on the banner on this site, but rather go to

http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/

I'm sure all the oldtimers know this, but as a newbie, I did not know it right away.

I feel kind of guilty. I read the breaking news every day but the only money Matt ever made off me was my cheap ass copy of "The Oil Age is Over" in 2004.  So, now when I order junk on Amazon that is not remotely related to peak oil, I'll try to remember to link through latoc. I'll get the 60 inch plasma TV so I can watch the riots this summer.

I'm very glad you posted this with a brief explanation. I'll do my best to keep you, amazon, and the post office in business! I'm in a more isolated part of the world where there's not much available unless you want to spend all day and a tank of fuel, glad I can make a contribution to this site and your cause Matt.

(Obviously just a joke moderators.)

I am glad this was posted, as I also assumed it was limited to the products advertised. I am sorry I didn't catch it before Christmas and seed season, but I'll try to make a point of it form now on, and I hope everyone else does as well. The time is right for directing your spending as thoughtfully as possible.

You can.  I have ordered items from Amazon.com when they have not been available on the Amazon.ca site.  When I can, I admit I order through the Canadian website.  That way, I can take advantage of free shipping and shop in Canadian dollars.

Glad I happened upon this thread; I too didn't know I could surf through this site on the way to purchases and help Matt out in the process.  Of course, I'm not the most prolific online shopper, but when I do make purchases I'd like to help keep this site healthy.  Good idea stickying this thread; I'm sure a lot of us jump on here, make a few posts, but don't think through how easily they could support this great site while making purchases online.

Exactly! My husband just ordered me Chip's cycling book through Matt's site, so I'm psyched!
