A spray made of cayenne pepper, garlic powder and dish soap will flat out drive bugs away from what you are trying to protect. Squash bugs ate the first couple of plantings but once the spray came out the bugs split. Drives off predator bugs as well though, so act accordingly.

And if i am not mistaken, add a raw egg to this mix and it will deter deer, will need to be reapplied after it rains.

In trying to re-build an old (1940's) bug dope recipe, seeking concentrated extract of pyrethrum, came across pyreth-it, a 6% pyrethrum + 60% pipronyl butoxide formulation, available on line. Approved to day of harvest, water mixable, and highly effective against potato bugs. I got enough to make a nice mix for mosquitoes, black flies, and minges, from www.greenislanddistributors.com  Not inexpensive, but very effective @ 5% with your choice of herbal odor oils and carrier base. 5% in your choice of odors?

Anybody got a recipe for sulfur candles to fumigate a green house?
