Hello all,

My girlfriend, myself and possibly her sister and her boyfriend are planning a trip across country this summer.  We think it may be the last chance to do it while gas is cheap and I still have a job.  We plan to start in NY work our way south west hit CO, and AZ, then CA and on up the coast to Vancouver.  We will then take the Northern route back East.  We would love to see some doomsteads and will be more than eager to lend a hand for a day or two in exchange for some practical knowledge.  If you wouldn't mind me and my little gang camping out behind your home, and relish the idea of a little free labor please PM me.

Thank you,

How do we know you wouldn't slit our throats in the middle of the night and take all our doomstead supplies?

I still believe in old fashion hospitality, and that 90% of people are good people.

I believe that developing trust in random people is one of the blessings of humanity.

I can't help you trust me.... If you aren't interested don't respond.

I love the idea of meeting a bunch of like minded people from different places before the chance is no longer possible.

"I can't help you trust me.... If you aren't interested don't respond."

If you thought you'd only get happy and fuzzy responses to your request, you sure posted it in the wrong forum.

You may be perfectly legit, but what you're asking is to put the risk totally on the landowner that you and your friends are what you say you are. What's the landowner get out of this sharing experience? That response may have been good enough to get you invited into a 60's commune, but I don't think it would wash today. There are probably going to be a lot of anonymous internet refugees in the near future who would love to be invited to someone's doomstead for a look-see. But I don't think there will be many doomsteaders who'd be willing to risk inviting strangers to their place just cause it'd be a nice gesture. But maybe I'm wrong. Internet dating seems like a big deal.

My advise: stick to the campgrounds.

Well, my little gang is quite harmless.  I am a digital Retoucher, my girlfriend is a an artist, her sister is a herbalist, boyfriend is a musician.   The closest thing I have to a weapon is a sling shot and a multi tool. And I drive a Honda fit.

Some of you guys are totally paranoid.  No trust between doomers?  Just wait until real doom happens and you start to see a lot of pleas on these boards for doomers to team up in last-minute cohousing arrangements.

Frankie,

I'm with you about trusting people.  I'm not worried.  It sounds like you're travelling north of me, but if you happen to come through northern Arkansas, you welcome.  You don't have to work man, you're on vacation!

My son and I are flying to buffalo during spring break and will drive across vermont then down thru boston, ny, phila, and dc to check out museums, historic landmarks, etc. Prices are low now, 80$ from West Palm Beach to Buffalo. And we want to stay ahead of the nukes.

I would like to let you stay at my place while you are down near NYC, but I don't know if you want to risk it....your doom goodies might be so tempting that I would be willing to break all my moral codes and slit your throat for them...

We'd be happy to discuss this with you folks.  It would be good to learn more about your interests, plans, and intentions.  Feel free to PM and open the conversation.

good luck!

Seeing as we are in THE FLY OVER area, we probably won't see you, but I'd welcome musicians on my doorstep anytime.

Buffalocreek, lighten up, dude/ette!

I'd love to stop in Maine.  I hiked mt. katahdin a couple years ago, but haven't been back since.

Your girlfriend's sister, the herbalist, will be interested to know that Avena Botanicals is just over the bog and hill from me.
