Has anybody bought anything from the Red Cross online store?  They seem to have quite a collection of first aid kits and other emergency gear...

Go down to your local construction safety supply shop and find a good one. If you are in Canada they'll be provincially rated (meaning they have a high standard), in the US it'll have an OSHA approval.

You can buy 5 good first aid kits for the price of one crappy one at your local big box store.

Those little units you see at being sold with a nice big first aid sticker next to the chocalate bars at Safeway are just crap and are overpriced.

I don't buy ready made first aid kits as the bandaids are mostly too small to be of use when you actually need to cover a wound. It is cute they give you a little aspirin, alittle anti-diarheal, and things like that but these are really just for comfort. For a longer lasting and much more useful first aid kit, get a bunch of those sterile pads, cloth tape, neosporin in as big a size as you can find, and medical scissors. Some other things to consider are blister kits and athletic bandages. You can also get some athletic socks for large wounds to stop bleeding.
