The Dervaes family are a real inspiration. I visit their site/blog frequently.

Most of all I like the fact they get across the point you don't need huge amounts of land to produce a lot of food.  The part of our place where I have the vegetable garden, orchard and hens is only a quarter of an acre and it produces way more vegetables, fruit and eggs than my father and I can eat in a year.  We still sell lots of surplus and give heaps and heaps away to family, friends and neighbours.

That was my experience also, Emeline.  My quarter acre garden fed a family of six PLUS a bunch of chickens, goats and pigs.  It was way more than we needed.
