Well, its official....I am laid off as of today.
The place I worked for tried to sell out but since NO ONE can get a loan these days they had no takers, so they decided to just close it down.

I will get $135. a week on Unemployment..... I guess its rice and beans for me. LOL LOL LOL.

The unemployment rate in my neck of the woods stands at 18.8% right now......not good odds for finding work.

Oh damn. I'm sorry to hear that. Have you looked through this thread, and did you have any warning this might happen? Again, I am so sorry!

Damn. Keep your wits about you and good luck, I wish you the best. Enjoy your time off to the maximum if you can, sometimes it's the best a person can do.

I have known for a few months now, but the deal was supposed to be that they were just selling the place and we could re apply with the new owners.

NO PROBLEMS guys, I will enjoy my time off and wait till the SHTF....Lots of time to work on my preps and such, my BOB needs some re organizing.  I At least have a husband who is still working, he has had his hours cut, but who hasn't???

I will spend some time practicing with my new Bow.....might need to get a few rabbits...LOL LOL

Thanks for your kind words.
You guys are the best.

So you have a new bow and an old beau?  Pretty cool.  But one thirty five a week?  What do they think that will do?  A tent space in a national park costs more than that.

We live in a trailer that we fixed up and my space rent and trailer payment are $573. a month.  Because I don't have to pay out the gas money to drive back and forth to work (we live out in the boonies) I think I will just have enough for our housing costs.
I figure that all this wont be going on for too long anyway, how can the country keep this up, a major change has to come soon.
I don't have any big bills, always lived below my means and it is sure paying off now.
My husband makes just enough for our other bills, with nothing to spare, things are going to get mighty interesting.....

I am taking it day to day, I have a big garden that has supplied all our food needs this year so far and I have froze and canned a lot of it for winter.
No car payments.
No 401k no IRAS no SAVINGS no REAL PROPERTY  no RETIREMENT no anything, and we like it that way.
My husband calls it VOLUNTARY SIMPLICITY.....
I never have to worry because my husband is in awesome health and always has my back. I figure if he survived Vietnam  then we should be able to take whatever this shit ass world throws at us.
Thanks again for all your kind words,
Lizzy.

I was let go xmas eve 2008-no warning.  I did not tell my family and kids until the day after xmas...did'nt want to ruin their day.   I said f-it....took a weeks vacation to Myrtle Beach to hang out with my buddy...I eventually found a job making 30% less, but since I live within my means, it's going ok, for now.

I look back on that time and it was not all bad...yes, nervous....but a good time to ponder and prep.

The RETIREMENTS/401Ks are going up in smoke for people who haven't converted them to something else such as preps and gotten OUT of the dollar.

NO we are not crazy at all.

If the Amish can do it and be content and live wonderful long lives, why cant we.

It does not matter what you have anyway, it wont be there for ya in the future.  My husband and I were both supposed to get retirement through our jobs, him at a mill for 30 years and me at an Airlines and nothing came through the Mill closed down and he got NOTHING and my Airline stock bottomed out.
After losing all that, we now say FUCK IT !!!!!
It doesn't matter what you do you always get the shit end of the stick anyway.

We are already pretty old and have no chance of ever saving up anything, what are we supposed to do.   ? CRY Huh?

That is funny, and right on.  You don't look so old, by the way.  I was defending myself similarly just the other day.  A friend, with whom I had shared my retirement situation, mentioned it was a pittance.  I just now remembered what I should have said.  I merely responded it would have to be enough, but I should have said what is the truth.  When you have been a good little investor and stuck your money in an IRA, or bought the pension promise hook, line, and sinker, mostly sinker, you are at their mercy.  In my case it was hard to come back twice after having my funds halved, once in 2000, and most recently 2008.  But one does get a good view from down here.

I am almost 50 my husband is 59.
Yes, I remember that book.
I had bought a lot of US savings bond also, a while back from work and one by one I had to cash them in because something always came up, needless to say when I went and looked in my safe the other day the cupboard was bare...lol lol.
Now we put ALL our money in preps.  All our 5 children are all doing well so we dont have to worry about anyone but ourselves.....
I'm very happy actually............
Grew up upper middle class, did not know it though. Worked hard from the time I was about 8 years old. Family bussinesses.....Builds character....ha ha ha
