One nice thing about this thread, we haven't seen very many new posts saying, "I got laid off."

That is a nice thing.  As you know I've been following this thread and I cringed every time there was a new notice of someone being laid off.  Although, one of my electrician friends was laid off two weeks ago... but he doesn't know about this site.  I almost don't want to tell him about LATOC in order to keep his spirits up  Tongue

Yeah, that's too much depression to offer.

Lots of good tips.

However, though I can almost see recycling dental floss if you wash it real well, there is no way in hell I am reusing mouthwash. I'd just cut it out. I mean, if you brushed your teeth, what's mouthwash for? Seems to me to be a "need" manufactured by the PR industry.

I do cut grape juice -- too sweet for me. But I just don't buy juice much. Too many empty calories.

And unless I was destitute, there is no way I'd sit in a 50˚ house. Gad! Thank heavens for the wood stove.

To each his own. Smiley

Serious question:
Why do people use mouth wash?

I've seen that news but the marketwatch article I haven't seen yet, thank you.  I'll pass it along to the people who say to me, 'hey, things might be turning around!'.

Yeah, that's too much depression to offer.

He has been in Vegas about as long as I have (~2 years).  He was planning on homesteading here, he and his girlfriend have an infant son now.  I've talked to him about the job market and the future of Vegas but it didn't really sink in until he was laid off.  I'm going to lay out some pertinent information for him when I see him this Sunday.

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/jan/22/jobless-rate-jumps-131-percent-december/

Some choice tidbits -

"Unemployment rose in the Las Vegas area in December to 13.1 percent, the 12th straight month of double digit joblessness in Southern Nevada."

"“The much anticipated opening of CityCenter in Las Vegas failed to be the immediate catalyst the leisure and hospitality industry needed to stop the evaporation of jobs,” Anderson said."

"Anderson said the current employment recession has now surpassed all recessions in the modern era in terms of depth and length."

“Despite the length and depth of the downturn, Nevada’s job market will likely worsen in the months ahead,” said Anderson

Yesterday I had my first job interview in 5 months.  Before I even got out of the parking lot they called me to schedule a 2nd interview for today.  I had court this morning (the court continued it to April 20th).  On my way home from court, the company called me and canceled the interview, they filled the position.  The good news?  I don't have to attend the next court date - and it *should* be resolved on that date.

I AM FREE TO LEAVE LAS VEGAS!!!!!!!

Congratulations!

Did they fill the position with YOU?

Lol of course not.  It's fine with me as I would have had to reconsider staying in Vegas for longer than I'd like.
