Just found this interesting tidbit of info from a cabin building book I am going to upload.
This is in reference to support posts when building a log cabin.

Perhaps wooden posts would be better.
These will last much longer if their ends
rest upon a rock. But bear this in mind, a
rock in contact with the earth will sweat
and the moisture would in time rot the
posts. This is easily avoided by using two
rocks, one on top of the other. The upper
rock will never sweat.
Cedar posts are
best, though other soft woods, as pine,
hemlock, etc., will do ; the hard woods are
not so durable. Treating posts to a good
application of creosote will add much to
their life.

Midwest very valuable info, question tho. Why can I not open up any links on the last part?

Correct me if I am wrong please, but I think you are referring to the titles that I have yet to upload to adrive.
I have not linked them yet. It is rather time consuming because it seems that adrive servers suffer from
massive packet loss on larger uploads. So I am forced to upload them a handfull at a time. Once I have uploaded
several, I then share them and add full urls to the titles and then you can download the selections.

If there are any that you would like to upload NOW please let me know and I will attempt to upload them first.
Sorry for the wait as I have been a bit busy lately. I'll finish her off. The real work begins when I attempt to
categorize them. Any help with that would be nice if anyone wants to take that on.

I am very appreciative to everyone who has stated that they are using these books. My goal is not a pat on the
back but the motivation is picked up by the knowledge that I am not wasting my time and we may actually use
this information.

My first goal is to spurn some serious knowledge and independent research by members of this board. There
are several "Nuggets" of info in some of these books and we could really catapult our understanding, knowledge,
and familiarity with these old skills quite quickly.

My ultimate goal would be the unintended benefit of creating an informal doomer survival "think tank."  There
is some of that going on, to a smaller extent, on this board already. I believe that this forum would be the best
place to keep and manage said "think tank" for the added benefit of the presence of the doomer nature of
the discussion taking place already. The forum seems to predefine the doomer ambiance in ones mind which I believe
would be beneficial to "problem solving" and "thesis, antithesis, synthesis" skills. If the desired results are achieved
then I believe this will be some of the finest doomer preps you could obtain.

For example...I had to delete and recreate the original thread in order to obtain enough posting room to keep the
links together for ease of use. It would not be as beneficial if these links were scattered throughout a thread. Prior
to the deletion, someone posted a notification as to the dangers in old well digging technology as may appear in
some of the books linked above. I am sorry that I lost that post. But that is the Idea....build on the knowledge of
others increase your own and post useful info in a thread. Then Allow someone to build upon that.

Hopefully someone with knowledge of any of the craft above would start a thread on the subject and copy the link to the book out in a new post.

The real fun will come when we reach a point where we are merging information from these skills together or using
them in new and useful ways.

Midwest, what you are doing is a very great and unselfish gift. When the links quit growing, I thought something was wrong. Please don't think I am ungrateful. This old info is very valuable and needs to be saved. What I have done for a couple of years was save this kind of info and then print them into actual books. Unfortunately when the thumb drive got full. I would start all over again. I just finished plowing with a 1940's John Deere 3 Bottom plow. Guess what to fix it up, I needed an old manual. It works like a dream now. No hydraulics, no electronics, I could even use it with horses if I had to.

...I hope that I did not come across somehow as thinking that anyone was ungrateful.
If only one person benefits from this I will be grateful. Hope it goes farther though.

Bless You MidWest.  I have assembled a pretty good "doomer" library, but you have single handedly built my electronic library.  Ever need a favor, let me know.

These won't fit on a cd. You will need a dvd or a thumb drive.

Other than the weekends clearing brush and working the garden, this has been probably the most "productive" weekend I have spent all year, downloading all these references.

Thankyou again!!!!!!
