i was thinking about that myself.....and i decided that thread drift is endemic............and was bound to happen.

I really think this is a significantly important thread that i guess is going to be very important over the next few weeks

i think the link between shipping and shortages is really close (time wise).......

i can only suggest..... be aware..........and take your preps seriously.......

Went to the local potato shipping warehouses - 14 of them - trying to round up some work (have had only 1 call in 22 days).2 were shut down, there was only 1 truck loading at 1 warehouse. The rest were truck free. Was told by workers at one place that they had 10 empty bins (100 truckloads) less than normal. That's just 1 warehouse! Was told harvest was bad, many farmers decided they couldn't afford to plant this year.Peak potato's,anyone?

This can't be happening - not peak potato.  My delux french fry cutter I've been debting for a year finally got ordered and arrived yesterday.  Now what the hell am I gonna do with it???    Angry

Seriously - I did just get one, and then today I found this new website $20 cheaper than what I paid on Amazon.  They work great!  Smiley

So a friend of mine who delivers fuel for a large local refinery got a memo today. The memo states that there will no premium and mid grade and premium gasoline being produced or delivered to the gas stations it supplies. Apparently, so far it looks as if they are filling the premium/mid grade tanks at the stations with regular and not telling the customers. They are still being charged the higher price. I don't know if the gas stations know or whether they are playing along.

Hey Tin if you can get a copy of that memo I'll feel a lot better about deciding we're too far down the rabbit hole to get back intact.  :-)

Time is not a linear flow. All times exist in all aspects of existence. It's a dimension like the other 3 we can experience, therefore, all that was, is, and will be, is all around us now. Alpha and Omega are not concepts that fit the reality of time except in our limited capacities to grasp time.

How about a 24 pack of 2 ply toilet paper for 13 f***in dollars at the Cash n' Carry.  Does
that put us down the rabbit hole :-)

we had the most gorgeous healthy potato crop; till harvest.  So many rotten potatoes!   We wound up with about a quarter of what we expected.  If others had that experience (I think it was the weird weather; no rain for a month, then non stop heavy rain and flooding, then drought again. . ._) then there will be a dent in the potato supply

I've been watching the price of TP throughout the year because it's something I always buy at the same store, the same brand and the same quantity (MD 12 double roll pack).

Beginning of year $4.99
3 months later     $5.49
1 month later       $5.99
1 month later       $6.49
Next 4 months      $6.99 to $7.49 to $7.89

As for shortages, there is only one thing that I've noticed, and this has been going on for some time. The Primatene Mist OTC asthma inhalers (I don't have asthma but my allergies gunk up my lungs) have been getting harder and harder to find (as have any brands of the same thing). This week I looked at Rite Aid (bare shelves), Freddie's (bare shelves) and Walgreen's (two, stuck way up in a corner somewhere - looked to me like someone might have stashed them there hoping to be able to buy them later.)

These are expensive and it's conceivable that the stores are only putting out a couple at a time to avoid to much loss to shoplifting, but I have had a really hard time finding any lately. If it hadn't been for my own stash, I would have been in trouble - I've been looking for weeks.

What if I told you that, somewhere on this island, there is a very large box and whatever you imagined, whatever you wanted to be in it when you opened that box, there it would be? What would you say about that, John?

Actually I found 24 rolls (double ply) there for about $7.50. The brand name is Vellure.

I'm going to try. If I do I will post it here AND send a copy to the local newspaper.

On a more serious note I went to one of my favourite pile em high sell em cheap stores (place called brian fords) in Barnstaple Devon. I normally grab a couple of the big catering bags of dried fruit 10kg. Nada nothing and they don't know when they will be available again. Just a minor thing I know but it is the first time they have ever been out of stock of these to my knowledge.

Look on the bright side. When famine sets in, you won't need to spend so much on toilet paper.
