Ah spring. Tell the kittys (3) to get out and earn thier keep and they
haven't dissapointed me. This week alone, 1 moley looking thing,
1 large rat/gopher, and 1 lizzard (head only). I rewarded my firece
hunters with a can of tuna that needed to be rotated out of stock. M

Geez, my elderly lady cat brought home a baby rabbit the other morning.  The thing was half her size.  Shocked  We have gopher I wished she'd make a dent in.  She keeps trying but no luck so far.

i have a hound dog that is great at getting gophers, he acts like a cat and brings them to me though   yuk   there is a feral cat that hangs out with my goats, you would think she is one the way she acts, but she is not gentle

My kitty body count is the kitty herself. My cat of almost twenty-two years appears to have to be put down this week. It is possible she had one of the tainted cans of cat food - I checked the dumpster for empty cans of food she ate the pat three weeks and sure enough she ate some of the re-called brands, although I think it is just a coincidence given her ancient age. Best mouser I ever seen. Trained her to catch mice when she was a small kitten by catching live mice and introducing her to them in a five gallon bucket. I’ve found mice dead hiding under boxes rather than come out and endure the ravages of Fart the cat. Twenty -two year is a long time for a cat, but is still hard to accept her loss.

Last year I inherited three (old, 10-13 years apiece) cats from my grandmother when she passed away.  One disappeared this summer, somehow managing to get outside when I was away, but the other two are still trying to trip me down the stairs.  They're indoor cats, but after I sell the house, they're gonna have to become outdoor cats, as my friend who's renting to me is allergic to cats.  I'm gonna build them a cat house, get the requisite vaccinations, and hope for the best.  Maybe they'll still be around if I ever get the farm going.

Sorry for your critter loss Bruce. We have a cat that will dissapear for weeks at a time.
She's our princess kitty and likes to go walkabout when the mood strikes her.

I'm thinking of getting a Bengal kitten, maybe two. I am going to call some breeders and see if anyone has a black one available. Since black Bengals are not up to standard and not  show quality,  I might get a break on a nice kitten.

I'm watching my new kitty, the porch kitty who I'm going to call Miho, stalk mice in my garlic patch from my computer room window. She nailed two so far. She has exceptional stalking technique. She knows what mouse holes are and patiently waits for them to come out. Damn, what a good cat to show up on my porch for free. It’s almost as if Fart sent her here.

Now my Obnoxious Cat (his real name is Mikey) has gone missing, seems to have slipped out the back porch window last night as I was producing some humanure at an accelerated pace.  Hasn't come back today, so it would seem, or didn't eat the food inside if he did.  I left some food outside and the window is open still, so he can come back in, but I'm not confident he'll return.  He was raised an indoor cat and I've kept him that way for the year and some I've had him.  He's smart, but his reflexes are probably too slow for outdoor survival.

Any suggestions, other than get the shovel out of the shed in case I find him in the street?

My cat Fart fell out of a second story window going after a bird a while back. I tried to find her, but to no avail. I left the back door cracked open about three inches with a strong chain, this was the Southside of Chicago, to keep anyone from opening the door fully. She showed up about eleven pm, disheveled and a little worse for wear. She never wanted to leave the house again.

The cat came back.  Not the very next day, true, but he came back last night, five days after he left.  He sounds different and has a strange look in his eye--maybe that's the look of a world traveler or something.  For now I won't let him out, but maybe he's proven that he can hack it as an outdoor cat.  And he's STILL clean for a white cat.  Maybe he'll stick around to see the farm and be my mouser.

I was WONDERING why the other cat would only eat half the food in the can.  I figured it was force of habit or something.
