The books are currently in transit from the publisher in Utah to my fulillment firm in Massachusettes. Should be there within in a week at which point we'll get caught up on the backorders. (There are about 50 at this time.)

I have it's predecessor (The Survival Home Manual, written in 1982) as well as the second edition of The Secure Home.

The 2nd edition of The Secure Home provides very complete discussions of how to make all kinds of survivalist type upgrades to your home but be warned that Skousen has a pretty traditional survivalist mindset on other things he thinks you should do before you start building or retrofitting your home -- things that women and enlightened men may find offensive (i.e. wanting women to be house slaves and homeschool their kids and do basically only the cooking & cleaning while only men do the typical macho chores). Also Skousen is fanatical in *everyone* in a family losing weight and doing exercise and thinks a father should be 1) in charge and 2) a martinet/drill sergeant in getting the wife & kids to comply. So this part of Skousen's book may not work for you.

On the plus side, it is good to see Skousen is updating his information on where to get the materials and gadgets (while the getting is still doable). I think his website used to have that info, but I don't know if joelskousen.com is still up and running.

I like the book a lot. I have never read any book - any book - that I agree with fully. My personal position is if I can take one thing from it and improve my lot in life either physcially, econmically, or emotionally then it has been worth my while. I do try to select my reading carefully and many I leave on the shelf at the store but when I get one I read it. I read more than most people and do not like to waste my time. With that said, there is little information in Skousen's information that I will discard. Most of it is well worth doing or considering. I think anyone consdiering improving their current home or building another is well advised to peruse this book and his ideas. Some of it sounds off the wall but when you do a little research it tends to be right on target - even on the things many would not consider part of their security measures - like drinking plenty of clean water. We all know this but he explains it and has some things that many have never considered I suspect but when you look into it he is correct or very plausible.   I am not qualified to argue across the board with someone who has spent a great deal of his life refining his advice and done so in a way that is logical. If I am not sure I will suspect he is right - which is a type of thinking/position that is not easily come to by me. Good stuff. Thanks Matt, et al.
