Hi,
I'd like to recommend Dining on a dime.  It has a lot of thrifty suggestions,
I learned how to cook from scratch by following her easy recipes.  Her site
is often updated with tips and tricks.

It isn't just a cookbook.  It has recipes for making your own cleaning supplies
and beauty supplies too.

This is one of my favorite books and I've found it extremely valuable.  One time
I lost my original cook book (Not Just Beans was the first cookbook and then
they added all the extra stuff and called it Dining on a Dime) and I was distraught.
I immediately ordered Dining On a Dime.

My friends come over and read the book as if they were reading a magazine.

When I moved, I found the first cookbook fell behind the microwave.  I was
ecstatic.

Another suggestion I would make is to go to the used book store and look for
OLD cookbooks with writing in them.  I have a gem of a cookbook where the
woman who originally owned it went through and marked off what recipes she
liked or didn't like.  She also had cut pages from Better Homes and Gardens
dated 1945, with recipes hole punched and put into the binder in the appropriate
section.  She also had handwritten copies of family recipes from her grandmother.

This is one of my treasures.

Thanks for the suggestion.  The last thing I *need* is another cookbook, but I love them so....

And I second your suggestion to look for older cookbooks in used condition.  I've gotten some awesome recipes out of those types.  One of my favorites is a mexican cookbook circa 1969.  It's technically tex-mex, and the writing is hilarious, but it's got some great hand written stuff in it.
