I saw this book at my local library.
It looked interesting, little did I
know it would be a terrible mistress
for the better part of three weeks.
Real Food , What To Eat
And Why is written by Nina Planck.
Miss Planck writes in an easy to
understand and informative manner,
while also reflecting on how her
choice of diet has affected her life.

The terrible mistress part comes in
when she tackles the complex origins
of food and how modern industrial
agriculture and it's lobbyists have
tainted and twisted generally accepted
truths that the public holds dear.
She devotes an entire chapter to fat
and how it's good for us. Butter good,
margarine bad. Her explanations are
much more thorough and make a hell of
a lot of sense. The book is so packed
with information that I could only read
a few pages at a time. She relates her
weight gain experiences while on a low
fat, vegetarian diet. Her explanations
about cholesterol in the diet are unique
and go against most instructions by
national health organizations. Hubby
and I had similar results. When we
switched from cholesterol to butter,
our cholesterol levels went down.

Miss Planck explores the concept of
real milk and cheese (sounds good to
me), as well as real fruit and vegetables.
Her descriptions of industrial, chemical
dependent farming with sterile lifeless
soil are not to be missed.

I skipped the part on real fish, we live
too far from the ocean for that to be an
issue. I highly recommend this book.
