Went to the dentist for the first part of the first (of 2) caps.  A healthy diet includes lots of foods that need chewing.

I made 4 of these emergency heaters to put in the car.  They cost aprox $6.00 each.  Really cool.  Here is the link.

After watching it I went right out to home depo and wal-mart and got the supplies, they only took a few minutes to do.

Yeah, that was great, risenshine, thanks.  Grin

Today, I took a long walk and did some good deeds for stray animals.

Went to the local Mixed Martial Arts place to see about some classes for the kids. Ballet is next.

H and I got our to-do list in order.

Agreed.  The cool part was the reminder to make extras for good friends.

12 boxes stock, 50lbs flour and 25lbs popcorn.  Looking forward to some good sales next week to add some great things like more canned pumpkin, canned cranberries.

Oh, that reminds me, Spring, I was going to post about that.

Folks, for those of you who aren't big bakers or cooks, know that this time of year you will fine the BEST deals on anything to do with food -- flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, condensed milk, canned fruit, chocolate chips, baking chocolate, shortening, oil, canned vegetables, hams, roasts, etc. If you are looking to store a lot of prepared food, or freeze or dry some, this is a really good time to do it. It always happens before the holidays.

Whoops, thanks for the reminder! IŽd fallen asleep on dry preps. Sugar and condensed milk, yassuh.

Target has canned veggies on sale for 45 cents a can right now. Even at Sams club they are usually around 65 cents a can in the case- so this is the time to stock up on those. Same goes for their boxed potatoes and such, those are 79 cents. Sure this betty crocker food is processed and weird, but they are staples!

Evap milk is currently 99 cents a can at Target too.

Added a lot of herbs and spices to our stockpile today.  Specifically, Cinnamon, Pepper, and Nutmeg - all things that I can't grow.

Whenever I buy food preps that I won't be able to grow myself or source locally post crash I feel like perhaps I'm just prolonging the inevitable.  Then I tell myself that it's a better store of wealth than cash and feel a tiny bit better.

Also spent some time reading the "Victorian Save-All" book, which is incredibly informative.

That victorian save all sounds great -- I'm making do with the Reader's Digest Practical Problem solver.  Lips Sealed

I tried to listen to as much great music as possible today and am trying to figure out how to get my family to a safe place or at least make this one safer.

I called a local nurse and told them about Niman.

I found some hiding places.

Found garlic cloves for 5 for $1.  Bought a bunch and canned them in the 1/2 pint jars.

There is a great recipe on the Ball canning website about how to can garlic.

We can garlic all the time.  It is one of our favorite things to bring to pot lucks.  Most of our friends had never tried it before and are hooked now.

I found a pickled garlic recipe, but it was water bath canned. Vinegar in it, and a bit of sugar. Is that enough to prevent botulism? Or should it be pressure canned?
