Last Friday, the plumber finished hooking up the rain barrel to the washing machine and a toilet, yippee!

Transplanted two pumpkin plants.  Some of the corn is now aboveground.

Spouse lugged home 4 25 pound bags of California Basmati.  Hope it's as good as Indian.  One of those bags will get vacuum packed in glass jars for a co-worker -- I'm workin' on all of 'em to get at least a little reserve in their pantries.

Petted and fed the bunnies, my Agents Of Manure.

Worked on my unemployment budget (speaking of manure).

I filled another food grade storage bottle of water.

I lamented over my poor tomato plants.  I am not sure I'll get ANY tomatoes this season.

Smiled at my pepper plants, who are doing mah-velously.

I'm debating whether or not to go to wallyworld and pick up their 20 lb bag of flour for $6--but I would have to get something to store it in, too....They also had 20 lb bags of sugar for $10--but I've got about 20 lbs already and am actually running out of space in the pantry...so...will have to figure something out.

If I do go to wallyworld, I will probably also get a new set of garden loppers and some plant food.  And milk.  Lots of milk.

Yesterday I dug over a new garden space and mulched the edges.  Today I'm putting up chicken wire to keep the dogs out.  We're all still consumers; this thread could be titled:  What I bought to prep today.....

You've got a point, Rbrgs....I wonder how many of us are actually self sufficient.  As in, could go without "buying" something for say...six months.

I could get by without going to the store for maybe a month at this point.  If I had to.

Talk about scary.

2 gallons of white gas fuel, some ammo, and some lamp oil.

Measured an area of my basement I want to tack up Styrofoam insulation panels in the event our heat is off long-term and I want to heat w/ my very meager supply of wood.  It's 300 sq. ft.  I should get by w/ little wood to heat such a small space to a livable temp. below grade.

Browsed and drooled over some very expensive ($4,500) solar systems such that I could run my freezer, some lights, some various AC things like battery chargers and cordless drills, a radio, and my dehumidifier.  I could probably also obtain a 2nd small chest freezer and use this: [http://mtbest.net/freezer-to-fridge-thermostat.html  ] to turn it into a small extremely low power consuming refrigerator.

Ravenhawk,  your battery charger link didn't work.

hmmm, worked right up for me...  Just go to http://www.ccrane.com/ and do a search on battery chargers, it's like $20 with quick shipping.

Picked up another 2500 rounds LR, felt like a sissy because the guy in front of me was getting 104 boxes of 12 guage.

Bought five files and a spare set of basic garden tools, just in case I get another "helper".

put 150.00 in diesel in the new motor home and started stocking the pantry in it.  figuring out how to add more propane later when the tanks run out.  going to buy an adapter hose for my large tank in the yard.

I'm trying to figure out this same issue.  Have 2 100 gal tanks for pool heater that I'm trying to figure out how to plumb in the MH propane tank.

I need to decide whether to uncover the pool this year.  Part of me says no, its not worth the money, but then again 20,000 gallons of clean water will go along way if the utilities go down.  It is pushing up over 90 already here in SW Ohio, a nice cool pool would keep the family out of house (and from b****ing about the heat Grin)

Plus kicking self in ass for not filling up MH last fall when we got back from a trip, diesel was $2.65 then; man them was the days!!

Thanks, RavenHawk.  Your link worked for me...at home.   Not at work, for whatever reason.

I should add I bought some plastic sheeting for repairing broken windows (MZB vandals) or leaking roofs and such.

Yeah, Lady-t -- linky? Smiley

There's a crafty place near here that sells 5 lb. blocks of candle wax and wicks. Next trip to town I may snap up a few. And I've been saving burnt down candles for years.

Corny, what are you being interviewed about? cool!

Today I ordered some buckwheat groats. 25 lbs. A friend made a great dish with them, so I want to add them to our stuff. I think grain variety will be important. I don't want to have nuthin' but rice n beans. I have about 6-8 varieties of beans, too! Cheesy

Finished waterproofing the back porch. Used white stain on the rails and gray on the floor and it looks FANTASTIC!

Planned a trip to Lehman's for Monday for a laundry wringer and assorted stuff. (consuming!)

Ordered a medical book Fish recommended from Amazon for $2.10 (see the "best of" page).

Picked, packed, and sold $275 in vegetables to pay for it all.

Gathered info to find out about transferring retirement money to pay off debt. Will tackle that starting tomorrow.
