Oh my goodness.  Went to the Common Ground Fair today, as I try to do every year.

My knitting friends, it was unbelievable.  The fibers were incredible.  Bags of fleece everywhere.  I wanted to buy just about every yarn I saw.  Unbelievable handmade drop spindles.

But I have to tell you about the hand made knitting needles and crochet hooks.  Ebony and other exotic woods, glass smooth, in all sizes, with semi-precious stones or freshwater pearls on the ends.  Oh.My.God.

I did not buy any because I bought seeds for kmaine2 and ran out of money.  I did get the card of the women who make them.  Incredible.

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou for the seeds. I know the needles of which you speak. We should meet at the Fiber Frolic in Windsor in June. A fiber Feast and those needles can be found there! Please PM me to tell me how much I owe you and I will mail you a check with the ABuyers catalogue.

OK, we have a date for the Fiber Frolic and hopefully we can get hippie and annawolfsong out here for that too.

I have half a mind to demand that Grower get on a damn plane and get her sorry butt here too!  Maybe even Michelle again!

I am knitting a boring little baby blanket at the moment. 2 family members have (foolishly IMO) got themselves pregnant. But I am accumulating hand spun wool from Rambouillet sheep who live down the road to knit myself an afghan for cozy tootsies this winter. My question is, what kind of cable needle do you use? It's at least a million years since I knitted anything with cable in it.

We are regressing in time, aren't we? And I'm a lot better equipped to do things like knit and make butter than my daughter is.

It's football Saturday! Which means I get to knit all afternoon.  Cool

I'm still working on the heart squares baby blanket.

I've just finished reading through all 25 pages of this thread today!!! I'm sure glad I found this thread. Lots of wonderful stories and I'm happy to see that Hippie is doing better after her surgeries.

I got myself signed up on Ravelry because of this thread... will have a look at it another day.

Everything everyone has been saying has me missing my spinning wheel. My boyfriend and I bought it when I went to Australia with him (he lives there and I live in Canada). He's coming here for a visit in November and has talked about bringing the wheel with him. I hope he can, but if he can't... I'm ok with that... sniff.

I've been getting back into knitting as well because of my two granddaughters and currently I'm working on a smocked pattern dress for my 2 year old granddaughter for xmas. It's great how having grandchildren to make things for has got me sewing and knitting again. <3

I just wanted to recommend, if anyone's interested in more knitting books, one of the best authors I've come across and that's Priscilla Gibson-Roberts. Her Knitting in the Old Way is an excellent book on learning about knitting traditional sweaters from around the world without preset patterns. Really good for homespun yarns which don't always fit into the gauges of a lot of patterns.

You've all got me wanting to make socks as soon as I finish my granddaughter's dress. Can't wait to feel how good real wool socks feel on my feet. (Not sure how the rest of my family would take to wool socks, but I think I could make some for my boyfriend while he's here. Wink )

@ Tranzdog... cashmere would be a beautiful yarn to make a blanket for your grandchild. Something really, really special. I have to admit that I love working with natural fibers. One of my favourites being silk... mmmmmmmm silk.... *wipes drool of chin*

Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino is cashmere and merino. Very nice. I have only used in small projects but it has a nice drape.  You can find it a a Local yarn shop that deals with nice yarns Or Halcyon Yarn Company in Maine has a website that you can order it from.

My only reservation is that cashmere has to be washed very carefully in my experience. Baby drooling all over it every day is going to reduce it to a mess in short order. I must admit that I am knitting a baby blanket out of acrylic, so that it's machine washable, and I am knitting a luxurious cable afghan for myself out of handspun rambuoillet.

I gotta admit that I have knit some baby stuff using good old Redheart. Some stuff for my first grandbaby is still going strong. She`s in her mid 20s, and the great grandbabys are using her blankets and sweaters. That stuff wears like iron. Cheesy
In fact I still wear a sweater that I knit 20 years ago with it. And, it was washed probably 2-3 times a week, when I was working.
