I am happy to inform everyone that Matt has agreed to allow me to post the link to my chat server on Latoc.

We havent had a chance to really discuss things in depth, but for now the server is available to anyone who would like to come in and chat. This is not Matt's chat server, so it is not his headache.

The server is active all day and all night. So come in whenever!

There are two ways to connect to the chat server. First is to go to www.theoilage.com and click on chat. If you have never used the Java  IRC program before, it will promt you to install the plugin. Once the plugin is installed *about 10 seconds on dsl*, it will start and automatically connect to the chat server.

This chat server is up 24/7/365 . There is no private information collected, you can chat completely anonymous.

The other way to connect, is to use an IRC chat software program, and input the server irc.theoilage.com in the server address line.

I reccomend using the website method, as this will be the easiest for everyone, but for the advanced users who prefer mirc, that option is available to you.

There are some rules to the server.

1) No Pornography - I dont really care what anyone does in there spare time, but all I need is someone coming on the network and sending a pic of some underage girl and me being tracked down and locked up by the gustapo... I am sure everyone understands this rule.

2) Don't be a prick - We invite conversations, disagreements, and the occasional argument. We dont expect everyone to get along. With that said, if we see people coming on the server for the sole sake of arguing and causing problems, we will take actions into our own hands. Normally a warning, then a ban.

3) No Spamming - Dont take a block of text, copy it, and keep pasting it to the channel as fast as you can.

Other than that, happy chatting.

If you need help in the main chat channel, look for houseoftang, or sammi (ladyl). If they are not available I can assist you (gnomore).

Other than that, talk about whatever. You are allowed to make your own chat channels and invite friends as well.

C'mon people, don't be shy. We don't bite.

I've tested the website, and it is certified blondeproof.  Cheesy

I'll jump in tonight when I get home from work.

Our network restrictions disallow any installation of plugins or software so no go for me atm.

I thought it was java, so it should work on any java-enabled computer, and java is pretty basic stuff.  But I'm not a major tech guru.

Is there a way to log on without using a web interface?  It just isn't IRC unless I can use BitchX or at the very least mIRC...

Cool, I will have to check it out... For those who aren't very tech suave, download chatzilla for firefox... It does all the messy connecting stuff for you.

Mint.

Best plan is this:

Download mIRC, take 15 minutes to learn how to use it.

Leave it logged into the server as much as possible, that way at least you're idling and can pop up whenever you're ready Smiley

For mac users, I recommend Colloquy http://colloquy.info/ for an irc client.
