It is probably safer to owe the bank only when you are the entity that is dying.  They like their money a lot and seem to be able to hound you even unto the grave...
Sounds like you are extremely well set up.  I share your concern for the medicine for life situation.  What big cities are near you in north Idaho?  I don't think of Spokane as that big, or Missoula either, but then I have not visited them in a while...

Greetings all,

I first heard about LATOC while living in China in 2006, where the site was blocked. Since returning to the USA in 2007 I have been a regular visitor.

Way back in Jr. High School I was fortunate enough to attend a presentation by Professor Albert A. Bartlett on the forgotten fundamentals of the Energy Crisis and the exponential function.  Back then (1976) Bartlett shocked us all with the prediction of $10 movie tickets - NO WAY that will EVER happen! someone said.  When Bartlett said the world would run out of oil sometime after the year 2000, the adults in the audience went into overload/disbelief.  The point I took away from the lecture was that the root of all our 'problems' is overpopulation.

Many years later (2001) I became curious about the oil situation wondering if we were close yet.  I have been learning and preparing for PO doom ever since.  In 2002 I explained what I had discovered to my then girlfriend who was a VC in San Jose... she started crying.  My friends let me know they did not want to hear any 'bad news' either.

I am convinced we are going 'over the brink without a blink' because of the widespread willful ignorance and denial surrounding overpopulation and it's side effects.

LATOC is great for the news aggregating and thoughtful commentary. BTW, I think Matt's performance in Crude Awakening was fantastic and I agree with what he said.

The Population Bomb was published in 1968.  We have been in denial ever since.  LATOC is banned in China?  Why am I not surprised?  It is actually funny, and notable because no less than Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, and who knows who else all helped China limit internet access for its citizens.  Great first post.  Welcome.

I am about an hour and a half driving time from Spokane, Washington.  You are right, it isn't a very big city.  Seattle is probably the biggest city and it is over 5 hours away going 70+ MPH.

I was just joking as I know you were too.  I based it on Spokane seeming to be so conservative, but i have not been in the lilac city that much...

Hello from Seattle, My People.

Long-time lurker, first time poster, out of gratefulness. i have learned so much from your diverse, flexible, searching voices; much less alone in the world, thanks to you.

Welcome.  You should look up Midnight Star, but don't annihilate her.  Kushtaka and Brian are in Seattle.  I visit there.
