Graveday and The Donkey.  It's either a great new band or the latest shrek movie.  Cheesy

Hi everyone!  I've been reading the forum for about a year now and I have to first thank you all very much! You have taught me a lot about prepping and made me feel not so alone.  I think I've always been a doomer.  Out of all my family and friends I'm the only one that it interested in this stuff and always have been and in some strange way excited by it.  But I think reality is starting to kick in.  I just read One second after and that was shocking to say the least.  I've been reading all the new posts waiting, waiting, waiting for that BIG whatever it is to happen.  Went shopping yesterday at costco for food, filled up the van and 2- 5 gallon gas cans, went to the commissary today and got more food!  Have enough to last for a year now. Well anyway thats enough for now, just wanted to start contributing and to say thanks and Hi.

Welcome risenshine, great that you are prepped with a year's worth of food!  Impressive, and if the web bot predictions are right, its probably going to come in handy and soon! Wink

There is a thread on One Second After here - check it out!  http://www.doomers.us/forum2/index.php/topic,41860.0.html

I've been reading all the new posts waiting, waiting, waiting for that BIG whatever it is to happen.

I am guessing you are male, but it doesn't matter.  For most people the BIG whatever happens where their legs meet their torso.  Make sure you have plenty of that.

I probably have a year's worth of food too, but I have to count the neighbors I won't miss, although they are really few.

I can see this is going to be fun.  I am a girl, early 50's and I'm not really sure what your saying.  But that's OK it doesn't matter.  After eating well for 6 months it will be slim pickens... beans, rice, and bread and that's about it.  Heard some good advice to tell neighbors when they say.." well I'll just come over to your house when I get hungry"...Ask them which one of my children would you like me to starve so I can feed you?  I'm sure you heard that one before.  I'm normally a very generous person but as much money and time as I have spent prepping I'm going to have a really hard time handing over my food.

First, you are a woman.  If you are a girl at early fifties, god help you, or helped you.  And those people who come over looking for food, and you have to decide, them or your children.  Well, that may be the Donner Party right there.

About beans and rice.  Read Tortilla Flats by Steinbeck, and you will understand how healthy you will be.  Very healthy.

Hi Newbie,

Well, I just signed up also and I don't know how to use sites like this that well.

But, I know I've got a lot to say.

As for your observations about the gool 'ol USA, yeah, we're pretty much screwed. Most of the people here are so cowed by the corp-toc-crazy, or just so into being one with the "competitive" USA, that they cannot even form a coherent thought.

Me, I haven't watched TV, other than some porn and a few DVD's I have (Die Mommie Die being the last) in over a month. I feel so free of the consumerist trap that the USA passes off as 'culture', I can't believe it! I wake up excited for each new day, despite the down mood of the people.

Well hello everyone. I'm still pretty new, though I've posted a couple of times. Just wanted to tell you all that I'm having a GREAT time reading your posts--I get a laugh every single time I go to this forum. THANK YOU--a good laugh is getting ever more important the worse the world's situation gets. Not to mention that the forum is incredibly intellectually stimulating. I look forward to learning more from you--I'm still wading through all the threads...it's obviously going to take a while! It will keep me off the streets and out of trouble.

Thanks again.

Hi & welcome... What is "One second after"?  Is that a post here or a movie or ?  Can you post a link?  Thanks, and welcome again.

Did anyone ever let you know an answer to your question?

If not-One Second After is a book by William Fisrtchen (or Fortschen, or Forstchen, sorry) about the effect on modern day US of a three pronged simultaneous EMP strike.

Breathtaking, heartbreaking and heartstopping, and yet oddly hopeful. I got it at my library.

Hi all. My first post but been lurking for some time (bout 7mnths or so). Thats me in the profile pic and i'm married to a great girl (9yrs+) and we have two wonderful children (8yr girl and 8mnth boy). Having a hard time trying to introduce my wife to these types of ideas and am camo'ing my preps as "Camping gear" and power outage preps for weather probs  Wink. Im a Brit in Canada and loving it. Canucks are a great bunch. Met my wife while I was in the Brit Army and though we have had some probs we are still getting along.

"One second After" was awesome as have had those 'when the lights go out' type thoughts since I was about 19 (mid 30's now).

Love to read sci-fi/fantasy and love the ideas buried in Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth novels - what becomes of society when the masses expect a free ride seems a major theme but takes a while to show.

I look forward to spending many many many hours with such a great bunch as you seem to be (though after 117 pages of "LATOCers in my head" I'm a little scared of KopperCougar Smiley "
